Say Hi Vancouver, February 08

EXCERPT FROM: Campaign invites Vancouver residents to wear name tag, Say Hi on Feb. 8 in bid to get strangers talking
By Stephanie Ip, The Province January 24, 2013

http://www.canada.com/news/vancouver/Campaign+invites+Vancouver+residents+wear+name+strangers+talking/7863333/story.html

Shelley Koorbatoff has launched Say Hi Vancouver, a campaign that she hopes will encourage people to reach out and break down social barriers.  “Say Hi Vancouver is a simple idea,” she wrote on the campaign’s Facebook page.

“We see the same people every day . . . and we have little or no connection to most of them.” Koorbatoff notes that a name tag is often a symbol that gives people permission to introduce themselves and spark a conversation.

She hopes that if people wear name tags on Feb. 8, it will help neighbours and people who see each other frequently — at the grocery store, on public buses, at the coffee shop — to introduce themselves and begin building connections.

Koorbatoff also notes she chose Feb. 8 since it marks the first ever B.C. Family Day weekend.

For more information on Say Hi Vancouver or to print out your own Say Hi Vancouver name tag, visit facebook.com/SayHiVancouver or twitter.com/SayHiVancouver.

Alumni Up-date - Jody He

Jody He

Jody He, pictured left, graduated two years ago from Airport Operations Class 10.  Hers was the first international class to graduate from the program.

Since graduating Jody has been working full-time with Garda as a preboard security screener in Fort McMurray in northern Alberta and taking courses on a part time basis that will eventually lead to a degree in business.

It may seem unusual for a person from the bustling and cosmopolitan city of Hong Kong to choose to live and work in Fort McMurray, but Jody has grown very fond of the city and her friends at work so she has no plans to leave any time soon, other than for vacation.  Now that Fort McMurray has direct flights to Puerto Vallarta through the winter, where to take the annual vacation will be an easy choice!

Congratulations Jody!
