YVR Airport- Ramp Manager

Job Summary Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Ramp Manager will be accountable for ramp service products and operations. With a strong focus on safety and security, this role will be responsible to efficiently and profitably manage and direct ramp activities by providing a safe, quality product covering a range of ground handling services to its customers Job Responsibilities Must adhere to ALL safety rules, safe working practices/procedures and Company Policies; Assist in the preparation of the operating budgets for the following year for prior approval by the General Manager; Monitor and control performance KPIs such as baggage delivery/handling, on time arrivals/departures, etc. and ensure they are within established goals; Must comply with Swissport’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and policies; Maintain close and effective business relationships with customers, and various control authorities such as Airport Authorities, Security, etc; Establish strong leadership with all supervisors and ramp employees through excellent communication and a positive work environment; Maintain excellent relationship and conduct meetings with local union representatives and or chairperson when necessary in order to resolve employees issues in partnership with local HR department; Ensure effective planning methods and procedures in place to ensure there are adequate resources, both manpower and equipment to meet operational needs; Implement, maintain and closely supervise all safety and security measures related to people, equipment, facilities and aircraft involved in the operation; Solves conflicts/irregularities and takes appropriate action; Participate in meetings internally and externally as required; Maintain a visible presence in all areas of operations; Be aware of the local emergency plan; Maintain and observe confidentially with respect to employee records; Maintain employees’ disciplinary records and ensure consistent follow-up and follow through with Supervisors and Managers; Oversee the management of the following: radios (PTT), scanners, communication headsets and cords, bypass pins, uniforms and all other ramp equipment. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Competencies Bachelors or Associates degree a plus, but not required; 5-7 years of managerial experience in the ground handling operations with strong focus on procedural compliance, safety practices and continuous improvement processes; Highly motivated self-starter, who can effectively prioritize, multi-task and manage to accomplish objectives within prescribed deadlines; Valid DA and Transport Canada Security Clearance preferred; Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; Fluent spoken and written English; Outstanding communication skills including written, oral, interpersonal and presentation Ability to be “on call” 24/7 for emergencies; The nature of this position demands discretion, good judgment and prompt, accurate decision-making, as well as the management of complex situations; High proficiency in Microsoft suite of programs, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to meet tight deadlines; Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations; Ability to deliver results; Ability to lead, persuade, gain support, obtain commitment, and mobilize a team to action; Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships with different department Supervisors and Managers; Flexibility to work on the weekends or when the needs arise; Proven track record leading and developing effective team to meet operational and performance targets; Must be dependable and reliable; How to Apply: Please send us a resume and cover letter to the email indicated Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Swissport as an equal opportunity employer bases its hiring decisions on the business need and the best qualified candidates available, and does not discriminate in its employment decisions on the basis of any protected category.
