Airport Operations Technician Lead

Our Nanaimo location is seeking an experienced Airport Operations Technician Lead to support our diverse operations.

Main Functions: 
The Airport Operations Technician (AOT) Lead, under the direction of the Nanaimo Airport Manager of Operations (or Designate), is responsible for supervising the overall day-to-day safe, efficient and timely operations and works to ensure the safety, protection and maintenance of the Nanaimo Airport property, personnel and information.

Responsibilities: 

• Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the AOT staff Level 1 and Level 2 at the Nanaimo Airport.

• Establish and maintain proper procedures and guidelines for safety, including handling hazards, concerns, and emergency situations.

• Provide direction to Airport Operations Technicians and participate in daily operations.

• Perform workplace safety inspections as required and lead by example in promoting safety consciousness for everyone at the Nanaimo Airport including employees, passengers, customers, tenants and visitors.

• Ensure the Airport is properly maintained in all weather conditions and all equipment and facilities are in good working order.

• Establish and maintain strong working relationship with the Nanaimo Airport, employees, EFC management, and any other key stakeholders.

• Efficiently and effectively respond, direct and analyze Nanaimo Airport inquiries and concerns.

• Liaise with EFC and the Nanaimo Airport, facilitating resolution of issues/problems.

• Assist in maintaining appropriate staff levels to meet requirements of the Nanaimo Airport.

• Assist in facilitating staff recruitment, hiring, terminations, time and attendance and performance management as required, in conjunction with EFC Management and Human Resources and with input from the NAC.

• Assist management in developing long term personnel, equipment and facility plans for airport operations.

• In collaboration with NAC management oversee EFC ARFF group as required to ensure they are fully trained.

• Document and provide detailed, current records and reports of Airport activities and analyse/report on the daily, monthly and annual key performance indicators.

• In conjunction with EFC Management, monitor departmental performance against both NAC and EFC goals to ensure that progress is being made and that corrective action is taken if necessary.

• Provide services after hours on an on-call/as-needed basis.

• General support activities related to the Nanaimo Airport Operations.

• Follow direction and guidance from the Nanaimo Airport Authority and EFC.

• Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.

• Ensure exceptional, courteous and respectful customer service through compliance and participation in the Company’s Step Up to Customer Service Program.

• Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.

• Perform any other duties as required.
• Qualifications and Experience: 

• Completion of High school diploma.

• Post-secondary education in Aviation or business related field is preferred.

• Demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience.

• Able to obtain an airport security clearance.

• Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean Driver’s Abstract. No restrictions permitted.

• First Aid and CPR would be an asset.

• Solicitor General BC Security Services License.

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

• Meticulous record keeping, report writing, observation skills.

• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

• Able to work various weekday, evening, weekend and overtime shifts as required.

• Professional appearance and behaviour while providing superior customer service.

• Demonstrate judgment, common sense and decision-making ability, particularly when required to take charge and direct others in emergencies or other incidents.

• Must be physically fit and able to meet the physical demands of the position which include but are not limited to; standing and/or sitting for long periods of time, reaching above/below shoulders, bending/squatting/kneeling to perform searches and lifting/pushing/pulling luggage and other heavy items.

• Able to work well under pressure.

• Able to work with the public and deal with conflict resolution.

• Able to work within a structured and highly regulated environment.

• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills, including the ability to exercise independent judgment.

• A strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

• Highly motivated and able to work well with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

• Professional, punctual, meticulous and diligent.

• Proficient at Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.

• Able to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
