Part Time Studies Airport Operations Associate Certificate

The Airport Operations Associate Certificate Program consists of nine mandatory courses totaling 24 credits.  It focuses on industry standards and regulations related to airport operations including, but not limited to, airport and airline security systems, airport master planning, aviation safety and risk management, emergency preparedness, human factors, safety management systems and technical writing.

Many of the courses in the Associate Certificate program are on-line providing a great fit for those students who are also working, or who are remote.  The great benefit of on-line education is the flexibility - you are able to plan your education around your needs!

The currently available courses are:

This course provides an overview of various airport departments, examines the regulatory requirements, and covers the operational and management services of both large and small airports.
COMM 2230 - May 18 - August 03 (on-line delivery)This communication course teaches the business writing skills needed to produce effective business and technical reports: inspection, trip, incident, and progress reports, proposals, feasibility studies, formal reports, oral reports, summaries and graphics.

Airport Operations Associate Certificate

(Part-time Studies)
The Airport Operations Associate Certificate Program's purpose is to provide current fulltime or part-time employees an opportunity to upgrade technical and airport administration business skills. It will also be of benefit to those individuals who are not currently employed by an airport but are considering a career in airport operations.
The Associate Certificate consists of nine mandatory courses totaling 24 credits. It focuses on industry standards and regulations related to airport operations including airport and airline security systems, airport master planning, aviation safety and risk management, emergency preparedness, human factors, safety management systems and technical writing.

The sneak preview for the Spring/Summer 2018 term started Friday February 16, but you can register for Spring/Summer 2018 term courses online, by phone, mail or in-person starting today Wednesday February 21 at 9:00 am (PST). Part-time Studies - Winter 2018

Did you Know.....


In addition to the full-time Airport Operations Diploma and the full-time Airline and Flight Operations (Commercial Pilot) Diploma, the Aviation Operations group also includes an Airport Operations Associate Certificate Program.  

The main purpose of the Associate Certificate is to provide people who are currently employed with opportunity to upgrade their technical and airport administration business skills. It will benefit to those who are currently employed in an airport or aviation setting as well as those who are considering a career in airport operations. And, many of these part-time studies courses are also applicable to the full-time Airport Operations Diploma program.

The Certificate is made up of nine individual courses, with a focus on airport operations in such areas as security systems, airport master planning, airport safety, emergency preparedness and airport management practices.  Any of these courses may be put towards the Associate Certificate, or taken alone as your interest and time permits.

  • COMM 2203 - Business and Technical Reports (on-line)
  • AVAO 2295 - Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices (on-line)
  • AVAO 3320 - Airport Safety and Emergency Preparedness (Face-to-Face, evenings)

Associate Certificate in Airport Operations (Part-time studies)

The Airport Operations Associate Certificate Program is flexible enough to benefit those people currently employed by local, regional and international airports and those who are not currently employed by an airport but are considering a career in airport operations.

The program consists of nine mandatory courses totaling 24 credits, with a focus on industry standards and regulations related to airport operations. 

This fall, three of the nine courses are available! 
  1. AVAO 2295 - Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices is an online course beginning on September 06
  2. AVAO 3320 - Airport Safety and Emergency Preparedness is a face to face course at the Aerospace Camus on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  This course begins on October 03.
  3. COMM 2203 - Business and Technical Reports is an online course that begins September 22

This is an introductory course and no previous experience with UAVs is needed. This is the first course in what we plan will be a series of UAV-related courses.

Part-time Studies This Winter

This is the perfect time to take an introductory course in Airport Operations through part-time studies.  AIRC 1004, Introduction to Airside and Airport Operations is a completely on-line course, offered through Part-time studies this winter.  The course starts on January 23 and runs through to March 26.  It is a required course for both the Associate Certificate and for the full-time Diploma of Technical studies in Airport Operations.
