BCIT Entrance Awards

BCIT Entrance Awards recognize academic and non-academic achievements of students entering an eligible full-time BCIT program.

2012 - 2013 Entrance Awards
2012 - 2013 BCIT Entrance Awards are for individuals who begin a program at BCIT program between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.
BCIT Entrance Awards have two distinct deadlines which depend on when you begin your full-time studies at BCIT, and what program you are in registered in. Several BCIT Entrance Awards have a specific, singular deadline to apply for. The deadline for each BCIT Entrance Award is listed in the award description.

If there is not a specific deadline, the following general deadlines will apply for Entrance Awards:

  • August 5, 2012 for those applicants entering their BCIT program April 1, 2012 to November 30, 2012.

Some Duties of the Airport Manager include:- Control and maintenance of 2 runways and groundside maintenance of roadways
- Maintenance of all airfield lighting systems
- Operation and maintenance of the Air Terminal Building, Water Storage and Treatment Building, Field Electrical System, Equipment Maintenance Shop and Sand Shed
- Preparation and monitoring of operating and capital budgets
- Responsible to invoice for monthly landing fees
- Maintain and amend manuals including the Airport Operations Manual and Emergency Procedures Manual.
- Maintain Canada Flight Supplement, Canadian Aviation Regulations Part III and Aeronautical Information Publication, Canada.

The knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired by possessing Airport Trade credentials or a general Degree or Diploma plus related experience in airport/air carrier/aviation operations such as airport fire fighter, airport security, airfield maintenance specialist, aviation Safety Management System. Must have Airport Safety training, Airport Security training, Emergency Planning courses, and at least three (3) years experience in airport operations.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $43.16 per hour to $51.52 per hour (approximately $84,162 - $100,464) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450

YVR FOD Walk

Early morning FOD Team
Each year during NAOSH Week YVR hosts the extremely popular FOD Walk to create awareness around the issue of Foreign Object Debris/Damage airside.

The year 60 students and instructors from the Aerospace Campus, including AVAO Classes 15, 16 and AVFO Class 11 arrived at the airport at 0430 to join teams of Airport Authority employees to fight FOD.  Small teams scoured the Aprons, runways and taxiways in search of metal, paper and other forms of garbage - and the elusive golden FOD Rocks, which were later be turned in for valuable prizes.

After an hour airside, the groups reconvened at the Observation Deck for breakfast and prize draws. Everyone who attended received a thank you gift of $10 YVR Bucks - but that's not all!  Several students won additional prizes ranging from coffee mugs and first aid kits to one of the Grand Prizes, a trip for two on West Jet.  Thank you YVR for this great opportunity!

Key responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Legal Services & Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will:
·         Provide sound, timely advice on all aspects of commercial transactions
·         Advise on a wide range of contractual matters including third party service contracts and transportation related issues, with a focus on purchasing, construction and procurement
·         Assess risk management issues, as well as environmental, regulatory and airline industry issues
·         Guide and oversee outside counsel

Key qualifications:
You are a savvy, business minded lawyer with:
·         3 to 6 years of relevant experience at a corporate/commercial law firm or in-house legal department
·         Strong analytical skills
·         Customer service focused with the ability to proactively develop strong business relationships with a variety of stakeholders
·         Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of projects at one time and balance conflicting priorities
·         Experience in purchasing, construction and procurement a strong asset

Key responsibilities include:

The Airport Authority is looking for a dynamic professional to join its Environment Department as an Environmental Specialist.  You will use your unique combination of exceptional people skills and analytical ability to lead and implement environmental programs and projects.  Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will be responsible for taking the lead and for contributing to program areas including, but not limited to:
·         Environmental auditing
·         Spill response
·         Hazardous materials management
·         Waste management
·         Environmental training and awareness
·         Sustainability

The successful candidate will implement the program, as well as, manage budgets, projects and consultants.  He or she will also monitor, evaluate, improve and communicate the program goals and results, all while working with airport employees and community representatives.

Key qualifications include:
·         University degree in Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering or a related field
·         Exceptional organizational and communications skills
·         Sound judgment and ability to make quick decisions
·         Extensive knowledge of federal, provincial, and local environmental legislation
·         Minimum of five years’ experience working in an environmental management setting
·         Experience in the delivery of projects on time and on budget, managing consultants, and liaising with industry, government officials and the public
·         Advanced computer skills
