Workplace practicums

Two practicum opportunities are provided in the 16-month Airport Operations program, the first in Term 2  and the second in Term 3.  During the workplace practicum experiences, students are able to apply their knowledge and enthusiasm to actively contribute to the workplace while increasing their understanding of the industry. And at the same time, practicum hosts benefit from the help with special projects that these keen aviation students provide.

Mike Prosser, Airport Manager; Natasha Stolyar, Customer Service;
& Jastine Chen, Class 13 Practicum Student at Boundary Bay Airport
Class 13 is currently involved in the Term 2 practicum, which is 90 hours long. They have completed course work in technical writing, communications, leadership, marketing, governance, project management, aviation security and safety. They also have some knowledge of terminal and airside operations.

The Term 3 practicum is 150 hours, or approximately 5 weeks long and students are eager to put their knowledge, skills and experience to good use. They are familiar with quality systems, airport safety, emergency preparedness, environment and wildlife managment systems, terminal and groundside safety, planning, design and capacity.

In several cases the experience and connections made through the practicum have resulted in full-time employment once the students have graduated!  The workplace practicums are definately win/win opportunities for both students and employers.  For more information on the practicum, click here.
