Kenn Borek Memorial Scholarship

Kenn Borek founded Kenn Borek Air with one twin otter in 1970.  Now owning and operating over 50 aircraft, Kenn Borek Air provides services worldwide on all seven continents.  Kenn Borek Air is also recognized worldwide for its spectacular rescue missions, including in the Antarctic.

Kenn Borek was not only a successful businessman, he was also a community leader honoured for his significant contribution to his community with the Queen's Golden Jubilee medal in 2002.  In recognition of his achievements, the Borek Group Of Companies is pleased to announce the establishment of an annual scholarship in the amount of $4,000 in the name of the late Kenn Borek.

The Kenn Borek Memorial Scholarship is established to assist Western and Northern Canadian students pursuing careers in aviation.  The scholarship is to be used by the successful applicant towards payment of their aviation education.

Eligibility

In order to be considered for the scholarship, applicants must demonstrate the following eligibility criteria:

1. Canadian Citizenship - Applicants must provide proof of citizenship, such as copies of birth certificates or citizenship papers.
2. Current residency in Western or Northern Canada, specifically residency on either the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, British Columbia or Alberta. - Applicants must provide proof of residency, such as copies of health care cards, driver's licenses, etc.
3. Age 18 to 30 years - Applicants must provide proof of age, such as copies of birth certificates.
4. In pursuit of pilot or aircraft maintenance training in an aviation program at an accredited post-secondary institution - Applicants must provide proof of acceptance in the aviation program at the accredited post-secondary institution.
5. A high school diploma or equivalent - Applicants must provide copies of their high school diplomas or proof of equivalent training.
6. Reasonable academic achievement in aviation program -Applicants must provide copies of academic transcripts from the aviation program in which they are enrolled.
7. Three letters of recommendation -Applicants must submit three reference letters.
8. Volunteer and/or community service - Applicants must submit a short summary of their community and/or volunteer service.
9. Proven self-starter - Applicants must submit a short summary of activities demonstrating that they are motivated self-starters.
10. Statement of Interest - Applicants must submit a one page composition expressing why they think they should be the chosen recipient of the Scholarship.

Administration

The Kenn Borek Memorial Scholarship will be administered by the Northern Air Transport Association.  Applications must be received by the Northern Air Transport Association by mail or email.

Scholarship monies shall be paid directly by the Kenn Borek Group of Companies to the accredited post-secondary institution offering the aviation program in which the successful applicant is enrolled, to be applied towards tuition payable, with the remaining balance, if any, to be paid to the successful applicant.
