NAV CANADA's flight service specialists work at regional airports, providing pilots with information on runway, traffic, wind and weather conditions, or at Flight Information Centres where they deliver flight planning services, weather information and other advisory services.

As a NAV CANADA Flight Service Specialist, you:
- Provide pre-flight weather briefings after interpreting charts, reports and satellite imagery.
- Assist with flight plan filing.
- Provide information to help pilots to safely land and take-off from uncontrolled airports.
- Stay in contact with pilots during their flights.
- Communicate safety updates.
- Provide hourly weather reports to Environment Canada forecasters for their predictions.
- Trigger search and rescue activities for missing or overdue aircraft.
SalaryRange:
Flight service specialist: $48,006 to $90,307
Requirements:
To take charge of a career in air traffic services you need confidence, good multitasking skills, the ability to retain and recall information, and a desire to take on responsibility.
You must be:
- At least eighteen years old.
- A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant (have received status).
- A high school graduate.
- Able to complete an intensive, full-time training program lasting approximately one year.
- Capable of completing an initial unpaid training period lasting approximately four to six months.
- Willing to undergo a medical and Secret Level security check.
