The Vancouver Airport Authority has a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Senior Technical Analyst in the Information Technology Department. Reporting to the Director, Technology Services, the successful candidate must have a very strong technical skill set, with 5+ years of experience providing WebSphere administration services in complex, high activity, UNIX based business environments. He or she must exhibit a thorough understanding of WebSphere Network Deployment architecture and administration. Experience with service delivery policies & procedures, and full J2EE life-cycle processes are essential, as are knowledge and adherence to best practice service guidelines.
Key responsibilities include:
• Planning and executing assigned responsibilities both independently and under direction of management
• Providing J2EE performance monitoring using provided monitoring tools
• Documenting and implementing WebSphere best practices
• Documenting operational steps and practices necessary to perform the assigned administrative duties
• Developing scripts to automate and monitor WebSphere routine tasks
• Configuring WebSphere Servers in a Cluster solution for high availability, load balancing and fail over support
• Evaluating products and upgrades for appropriateness, and overseeing and implementing system upgrade strategies
• Deploying new business applications and application updates into WebSphere Application Servers
• Conducting capacity planning reviews with server administrators, business analysts and management
• Providing technical leadership to appropriate personnel on highly complex system administration activities
• Providing technical solutions and escalated support for non-routine, highly complex technical issues
Key qualifications include:
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent
• 7 years’ relevant IT experience
• Demonstrated experience with the following:
o WebSphere Application Server (V6.1 and V7); WebSphere migration experience is highly desired
o WebSphere performance tuning/debugging skills
o WebSphere process server and WebSphere service registry (V7)
o WebSphere Admin (WSADMIN/Python/Python scripting experience)
• Proven ability to identify and resolve performance issues
• Ability to interpret Java garbage collection logs and thread dumps to recommend tuning optimizations
• Strong time management skills and the ability to complete activities within time constraints are crucial
• Strong team orientation and consistently contribute to realization of team goals and customer satisfaction
• Excellent analytical and logical reasoning skills
• Strong leadership and organizational skills, proven by on-time, on-budget delivery of small-to-medium scale projects
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work on-call, supporting 24x7 environment
Experience with the following preferred:
• Unix (V6) – Basic Knowledge
• Understanding and experience in disaster recovery
• Understanding of incident, change, and problem management processes (ITIL certification is a plus)
