New Posting - Ledcor (Aviation Division)

The Resources & Transportation Division of the Ledcor Group encompasses a number of Ledcor businesses including: Summit Air Charters, Summit Helicopters, Aurora Jet Partners, the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre (VHFC), and an integrated forest products division which procures, processes, stores, and delivers wood fibre (using its own fleet of highway tractors/trailers and tugs/barges) for the power generation, wood pellet, and pulp & paper industries in BC. The division also produces solid wood products, squares and boards, for both domestic and export markets.

Summit Air is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Protection Officer to support our flight operations in Yellowknife, NT. The HSE Officer is responsible for Summit Air’s occupational health and safety program, and assists managers and front-line supervisors in achieving the corporate goal of zero lost time incidents. This position has a hands-on role in the management of health and safety related activities and events.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Ledcor’s Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Program is implemented and followed
  • Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Canada Labour Code Part II, Workers’ Safety & Compensation Commission (WSCC), Certificate of Recognition (COR)  Standard, and Aviation Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Perform general administrative and recordkeeping functions and procedures including: tracking prequalification data, reviewing sub-contractors’ safety programs, maintaining inventory for all hazardous products personal protective equipment on site, and the maintenance and filing of confidential documents
  • Demonstrate Ledcor core values by creating clear and timely “Flash Reports” and participating  in detailed, fact based incident investigations and management
  • Provide initial HSE Training to all newly hired managers and employees
  • Conduct daily walk-arounds, monthly hangar and float plane base facility inspections
  • Ensure ground operations personnel are familiar with responsibilities under company Emergency Response Plan 
  • Lead the Safety Committee for Summit Air and Summit Helicopters
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in place to support, monitor, audit and improve overall safety
  • Investigate, analyze, and identify the cause of ground hazards, incidents, and accidents and their respective corrective actions

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years in a full-time Health and Safety role; airport related experience is preferred
  • Related post-secondary HSE degree, diploma or certification will be considered an asset
  • Experience with providing solutions based on clearly defined procedures outlined in OH&S requirements
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
  • Proven ability to consistently convey mature professional judgment, competency in the safety management system, and technical and managerial knowledge required of a HSE specialist
  • Above average problem solving skills, and the ability to make decisions based on defined regulations
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying crucial and time-sensitive HSE information to employees and other stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all employee and Summit matters
  • Energetic self-starter with the ambition to develop in the HSE field
