The Calgary Airport Authority is currently recruiting a Director, Community Engagement. 

This newly created role is an exciting opportunity for a community engagement expert with a clear drive for building and enhancing YYC’s community engagement by collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Communications & Stakeholder Relations, this position has the following accountabilities:

1.     Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy designed to build on YYC’s presence within the Calgary community with a wide variety of groups.

2.     Develop and implement a community engagement program that advises and educates the public on the Authority’s overall purpose, scope and impact of public engagement initiatives.

3.     Design and execute plans for public consultations, community liaison groups, neighbourhood outreach, educational programs and other engagement initiatives.

4.     Leverage current volunteer and airport staff engagement programs as a means to strengthen relationships with airport stakeholders and the public at large.

5.     Collaborate with internal teams on community engagement programs.

6.     Provide leadership, direction and guidance to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

 * Will be required to use personal vehicle for business travel purposes.

Basic Requirements

• Post secondary education in Business, Communications, or Public Relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Solid experience and proven track record in leading and developing community and stakeholder relations initiatives, community engagement programming, and public engagement processes.

• Exceptional communication and listening skills; able to professionally handle emotional situations with tact and empathy at community forums, meetings and events.

• Ability to think “on the fly” and assess perspectives from a variety of sources, often in conflict, and look for mutually beneficial outcomes.

• A reputation as an “influencer”, with the ability to build relationships.

• Demonstrated ability to be proactive and persistent in achieving results and to operate effectively in a high demand environment without compromising quality and productivity.

• Experience in the aviation industry would be a definite asset.
