Canadian Helicopters Limited (CHL), a Canadian subsidiary of the HNZ Group based in New Zealand (Trent Drive, Nelson Airport 7011, Private Bag 9, Nelson 7042, New Zealand) specializes in helicopter transportation and related support services. We are the largest helicopter transportation services company operating in Canada with a network of 24 strategically located bases providing operations in every geographical region of the country. CHL’s head office is located at 1215, Montée Pilon, Les Cèdres, Québec, J7T 1G1.

In addition to providing full turn-key maintenance services to our clients, CHL also provides rotary wing instructors. To that end, we are responsible for providing ground training to Department of National Defence (DND) student pilots who are training to become “wings standard” military helicopter pilots, as well to qualified military helicopter pilots who are training to become flight instructors.

CHL’s location in Southport, Manitoba is currently looking to fill four permanent, full-time positions for Academic & Flight Simulator Instructors. These instructors are required to support a major 22-year flying, training, and support (CFTS) contract that was awarded to us by DND. The location of employment is 55 Musketeer Road East, Southport, Manitoba, R0H 1N1.

CHL Instructors provide simulator instruction in one of two Bell 412CF flight simulators covering basic and advanced visual flight rules (VFR) flight, instrument flight, in addition to night (unaided and aided) and aircraft emergency procedures. Our instructors also provide academic instruction on helicopter aerodynamics, aircraft systems (for both the Bell 206B3 and the Bell 412CF models), flight procedures, flight management system use, night vision goggle (NVG) concepts and techniques, and basic mountain flying techniques;

Qualifications 

Duties and responsibilities • Providing instruction to DND personnel; • Delivering training to our customers utilizing the most recent accepted versions of the Ground Based Training Systems (GBTS), and an approach as stated in the A-P9-050-000/PT-001 Canadian Forces Individual Training and Education System Manual; • Supporting all maintenance ground runs and test flight requirements; • Other responsibilities as assigned by the CHL Managers Requirements • Hold or have held a Transport Canada (TC) Class 3 or higher Instructor Rating for helicopters, or, for former military pilots, have held at least a B category QFI rating; or equivalent and foreign military (DND recognized) instructor rated individuals; • Hold or have held a TC instrument rating; • Have at least two years of experience in their field of expertise; or at least two years of experience as a pilot; or be an ex-military pilot; • Possess and maintain a TC Commercial Pilots License, endorsed on B206 and B412; • Possess and maintain a TC medical; • Good communication skills and a positive attitude; • Ability to work within a group environment; • To fully satisfy the conditions of this position, candidates must successfully complete the DND Flight Instructor Course (FIC) Qualification Code AIMB; • All retained candidates will also have to demonstrate proficiency on type by satisfactorily completing an evaluation ride with the CFTS Chief Rotary Wing Instructor or his designate.
