The Vancouver Airport Authority has an opening for a permanent, full-time Manager, Air Service Development in the Marketing and Communications Department. Reporting to the Director, Air Service Development, the successful candidate will manage the Airport Authority’s air service development efforts and supporting analysis program that are focused and consistent with the Corporate Strategic Plan.
Key responsibilities include:
- In collaboration with the Air Service Development team, execute the Department's air service growth strategies
- Provide a lead role for negotiations with airlines, as outlined in the Air Service Development Strategy and/or determined by the Director of Air Service Development to deliver additional air services. Includes relationship management, development and delivery of business cases, and commercial negotiations with airline decision makers.
- Provide a support role to Director Air Service Development, Vice President Marketing and Communications for airline negotiations and priority projects as required.
- Play a lead role in the management of effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including airline customers, airport industry, Provincial and Federal Government agencies
- Developing air service proposals for both existing and potential new air carriers; the successful candidate must be able identify, generate and evaluate such opportunities through comprehensive market research, modelling, analysis and the presentation of high quality, superior business cases for prospective carriers
- Maintaining a comprehensive and up-to-date market and statistical database
- Overseeing and being accountable for the compilation and analysis of all passenger and cargo site statistics including the preparation of industry and market performance briefings
- Updating management of any relevant developments within the air carrier and aviation industry and the Airport Authority’s competitive position
- Playing a key role with the Director Air Service Development in preparing and monitoring passenger forecasts used for the budget process which will involve maintaining a close relationship with Finance with respect to the budget and industry trends
- Providing support and direction to a team of dedicated employees – this includes monitoring work efforts and performance, hiring, coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities, conducting formal evaluations, applying appropriate discipline and representing management in grievance meetings
- Providing industry intelligence and analytical support for Aviation Marketing team members
- Effectively liaising with various internal departments and providing support as required
- Undertaking other ad hoc analyses and projects as they arise
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Marketing or equivalent, in combination with a minimum of five years’ relevant industry experience; master’s degree in any of the above disciplines viewed as an asset
- Relevant industry experience with one or more of the following:
- air service development experience with an airport or government
- airline experience in route planning, alliances and marketing
- familiarity with airline economics
- experience in airport planning and operations especially where it interacts with the airlines
- Working knowledge and experience of air service development for airports, airline network planning, relationships with commercial airlines and network planning teams would be a significant advantage
- Demonstrated experience and abilities in conducting analysis to support commercial outcomes
- Proven experience leading and motivating a highly skilled team of professionals with the ability to nurture a work environment that is proactive, flexible and responsive to change
- Proven high level relationship management skills
- Effective negotiator and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Highly self-motivated and the ability to take initiative
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills along with proven interpersonal skills and the ability to build and foster sound professional relationships
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Highly analytical with the ability to develop concepts and identify viable market opportunities
- Ability to be resourceful in researching and analysing markets and issues
- Knowledgeable on industry data and information resources
- Proven experience with MS Word, Excel and presentation software
- Team player with well-developed interpersonal skills.
