Reporting to the Manager, Deicing Operations, this position is responsible for the supervision of a team of Specialist, Aircraft Deicing and Deicing Technical Inspectors (DTI) performing Ground Deicing Services for all carriers and operators at Toronto Pearson. The successful incumbent will also ensure that all staff are working in a safe manner and have the required and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and company uniform.
Job Description Key Accountabilities:
- Providing site supervision, leadership and guidance to a crew of Aircraft Deicing Specialists and to the staff performing work in the field
- Supporting and assisting the leadership of Aviation Services and ensuring appropriate action is taken to deliver on the day of requests made by the Manager, Operations Aviation Services and AOC
- Mentoring, training for ADS DTIs and candidates for supervisory positions
- Providing input and recommendations to the appropriate management representative regarding operational plans, procedures, processes and policies including the identification of shortfalls/deficiencies
- Conducting initial assignment of resources to deicing bay and ensuring that all areas of the deicing operation are staffed, equipped and functioning safely and efficiently
- Completing operational and incident reports accurately and in a timely manner
- Ensuring that all facility, pad, taxiway and taxilane inspections are performed as required
- Addressing performance issues within the crew
- Providing input to performance appraisals for new staff and any other circumstances where appraisals may be required.
- Ensuring that proper time and attendance records are kept up to date, verified, and recommended for approval using the computerized timekeeping system
- Maintaining currency with aircraft deicing techniques, materials and technologies and identifying potential emerging technologies and materials that may be beneficial to current operations
- Liaising with outside suppliers and the applicable Technical Inspectors to evaluate suitability and applicability.
- Managing and overseeing gate deicing operations for morning Hoar Frost
- Any other duties as required
Job Requirements Qualifications:
- High School diploma and experience operating aircraft deicing equipment and other heavy equipment in an airport environment.
- Experience operating aircraft deicing equipment and other heavy equipment in an airport environment is considered an asset
- Experience in aircraft deicing operations is considered an asset
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Must meet the security level designated for the position or must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance
- Must be able to complete (annual) Aircraft Deicing Specialist training and qualifications within ninety (90) days of appointment to the position
- Valid Provincial Driver’s G License Required
- The successful incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a D/A class AVOP permit within thirty (30) days of appointment to the position
- The successful incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Confined Space certification
- Must be able to obtain and retain a Transport Security Clearance

- Knowledge of ISO 14001 registration, the environmental policy and significant environmental aspects as they relate to the GTAA.
- Ability to review radar and other weather forecast reports
- Planning the work of others which may include the use of software including various components of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Ability to prioritize tasks and assignments for self and others within a team environment.
- Knowledge of Toronto Pearson airside topography (runways, taxiways, aprons, terminals).
- Demonstrated decision making, interpersonal and problem solving skills
- Ability to work rotational shift work (days, nights and weekends)
