Reporting to the Director, External Communications, this position is responsible for managing external communications programs, and executing plans to ensure external communications plans and programs are implemented effectively to support Toronto Pearson’s business strategy, reputation and overall brand.
Job Description Key Accountabilities:
- Manage external communications programs from planning through to implementation including providing hands-on support while managing resources, timelines and deliverables from other team members
- Develop key communications on behalf of the company, selecting the appropriate communications channels which may include social media, news media and other digital channels
- Seek out opportunities to generate and earn media stories regarding the airport and the GTAA
- Collaborate with multiple departments to provide accurate and timely information for the public through external-facing tools and channels
- Collaborate with multiple departments and outside agencies and partners to provide interesting and informative content for social media and news media regarding the airport, passenger amenities, the GTAA and airport-related events
- Lead crisis communications planning initiatives, including but not limited to, Irregular Operations, Crisis Management and reputational issues management
- Accountable for 24/7 media relations on-call team coverage; responsible to participate in Emergency Operations Centre stand-by coverage
- Measure, analyze and report on the performance of external communications initiatives and make improvement recommendations based on insights, best practices and experience
- Responsible for being a customer centric Leader with respect to the Mission, Vision, Values and Behaviours
Job Requirements Qualifications:
- University Degree in Communications or Public Relations or a similarly related field plus a certificate or diploma in communications, public relations or journalism
- Experience in aviation or transportation field will be considered an asset
- 5 years of experience in communications or public relations
- 3 years of progressive experience in People Management
- French comprehension considered an asset
- Proven track record with high pressure, fast paced media relations, including up to date understanding of news outlet constructs and politics
- Proven experience with crisis communications planning and execution
- Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
- Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance
- Provincial Driver’s (G) License

- Proven ability to strategically and effectively develop communication plans and programs
- Understanding of new and emerging technologies, including social media especially Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
- Ability to act as advocate for the company with multiple stakeholders in high-demand settings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications
