Reporting to the Director, Internal and Communication Services, the Manager, Internal Communications, will develop and execute on highly innovative internal communications strategies, messages and tactics that engage 1,300 employees directly employed by the GTAA and the broader Toronto Pearson Employee Community of roughly 40,000 employees. The Manager, Internal Communications will define, execute and measure communication plans to build employee understanding, inspire behaviour change and promote engagement.
Job Description / Key Accountabilities:
- Responsible for being a customer centric Leader with respect to the Mission, Vision, Values and Beliefs.
- Manage and execute highly innovative internal communications strategies, messages and tactics that engage Toronto Pearson employees.
- Lead a well‐managed contribution group within budget and aligned to the strategic plan.
- Forge a strong working alliance with the Senior Team of People and Culture to help drive change through employee program innovation and communications.
- Execute and measure communication plans to build employee understanding, inspire behavior change and promote engagement.
- Develop a full range of content including videos, leadership messages, employee meeting content, newsletters, presentations and speeches.
- Develop internal campaigns which will run the course of a full calendar year, to ensure that messaging is consistent and aligned.
- Develop communication plans; determine audience and vehicles; gain sponsor approval; provide writing, editorial, design, publication, production and promotion execution support; assess, measure and evaluate effectiveness; and drive continuous improvement.
- Coordinate efforts with External Communications and Community Relations teams on a variety of channels and vehicles–internal, external, digital, social, web, mobile, etc.
- Proactively build and manage relationships with key internal stakeholders from across Toronto Pearson.
- Manage contractors and third‐party vendors.
- Monitor employee engagement through pulse research efforts and work with the P&C business to develop communication strategies to address issues identified in the survey.
- Manage and drive GTAA/TPEC community requirements to promote engagement, develop alignment and build awareness of corporate themes to achieve corporate goals.
- Execute plans and strategies to deliver communications that engage the GTAA/TPEC community and build/promote the GTAA brand, continuously improving the effectiveness of communication through development of key messages and themes to be included in all communications.
- Research and analysis (customer insights) that allow communications to be precisely targeted by audience.
- Continually monitor, measure, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness and impact of communications strategies and brand messaging.
- Manage the intranet redesign, with the goal of creating an innovative, digital property that enables multi‐media communications with employees at all levels, across Toronto Pearson.
- Partner with colleagues driving external communications to ensure message alignment and consistency – and to generate new content ideas.
- Assist as required during crisis communications events, ensure that the employees of Toronto Pearson are well informed during such events.
- Accountable for 24/7 media relations on‐call team coverage; responsible to participate in Emergency Operations Centre standby coverage
Job Requirements /Qualifications:
- University degree/College diploma in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is essential, preferably in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or Marketing.
- Aviation industry related experience would be considered an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a field related to Communications (ie. Marketing, Public Relations).
- 3 years of progressive experience in People Management (direct report or cross‐functional).
- Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment.
- Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
- Provincial Driver’s (G) License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent editing and writing skills and will be meticulous about accuracy and grammar with a sound understanding of tailoring content to specific audiences based on the channel.
- Solid understanding of best practices relating to internal communications and trends in this field, with a focus on employee engagement.
- Demonstrated superior organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively manage and communicate change.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written and listening) and have excellent skills using MS Office.
- Must be detail oriented, a team player accustomed to fast‐paced, collaborative environments with tight deadlines.
- Proven time management and prioritization skills with the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities.
- Bilingual (French) work experience is considered a strong asset.
