The Role

TERM (September 2015 - -September 1, 2017)

Reporting to Director, Environmental Services; this safety-sensitive position is responsible for the following primary duties:

40% Water Quality Management Program

1.     Support the Water Quality Management program, including:  maintenance and management of the Water Quality Program document, working with stakeholders to develop and implement campus wide distributed deicing strategy, ensuring airport activities adhere to applicable Municipal, Provincial and Federal water quality regulations, water quality monitoring, storm water infrastructure monitoring and maintenance, manage permitting, and provide monthly, quarterly and annual reports;
2.     Support and participate in the Airport Glycol Committee.
40 % Noise Management Program

1.     Support the Noise Management program, including:  managing the Noise Concern Hotline; developing related communication pieces (such as reports, brochures, presentations, and newspaper articles); managing the flight tracking complaints database; investigating and assessing non-conformance to noise abatement procedures;
2.     Support and participate in the Airport Community Noise Consultative Committee.
3.     Produce technical reports and presentations on noise related issues
15% Wildlife Management Program

1.     Support the Wildlife Management Program, including: Ensure all wildlife control, monitoring, and reporting requirements are fulfilled as part of the Federal and Provincial Regulatory requirements, Ensure all wildlife risks to aviation safety are mitigated through habitat management projects and the appropriate use of control measures, Review developments proposals in neighboring communities for incompatible land use and or water developments, Consult with government and private stakeholders over wildlife regulations and issues.
2.     Develop, and deliver Wildlife Training Course to the Airfield Compliance Staff
5% Other

1.     Provide training and information sessions on environmental awareness.
2.     Other duties as assigned

Basic Requirements
  • Environmental science education combined with experience in environmental monitoring with an emphasis on water quality monitoring and reporting.
  • Relevant industrial and environmental regulatory experience
  • Knowledgeable with relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation in Alberta
  • Ability to evaluate technical data to ensure compliance to applicable regulations, and promote positive environmental performance among airport tenants and staff.
  • Previous experience writing relevant technical reports and regulatory submissions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for developing policies, documents, public presentations, training and consultation with airport tenants over environmental issues.
  • Ability to build internal and external relationships with airport partners and tenants including Municipal, Provincial and Federal authorities.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14000.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).
  • Previous work experience in an airport environment will be considered an asset.
