Reporting to the Airport Manager, Inuvik, the Supervisor, Surface and Mobile has overall responsibility for ensuring the timely repair, maintenance and serviceability of the surface structures and mobile equipment for the Airport. This position is located at the Inuvik Mike Zubko Airport, but the incumbent is also responsible to assist with and support the airport maintenance at the community airports of Aklavik and Fort McPherson. The Supervisor Surface and Mobile directs three subordinate Airfield Maintenance Specialists positions and one Heavy Equipment Mechanic, and provides all classroom and field certification training for these positions to become certified Airfield Maintenance Technicians.
During the winter months the incumbent is required to be on rotating airfield maintenance standby schedule and provide airfield maintenance in conditions where there is staff shortage, extreme weather or an emergency.
The Supervisor, Surface and Mobile plans, organizes and supervises the operational and structural repairs and maintenance of the airfield infrastructure including all aircraft movement areas, airport roadways and ancillary airport infrastructure including landscaped grounds, signs and fencing.
The incumbent works closely with the on-site Mechanic to plan and organize the maintenance and repairs of all associated airport mobile and vehicular equipment, including the auxiliary power plant.
The primary clients are the air carriers providing scheduled and charter services to the public. In performing the duties of this position, the results of operational decisions can directly impact the safe landing and take-off of aircraft.
Typically the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would normally be acquired from having worked as a certified airfield maintenance technician/specialist for a minimum of three (3) years and completion of high school grade 12 with two (2) years experience in a supervisory or leadership position.
The incumbent must have a valid NWT Class 3 driver’s license with an airbrake endorsement, a Firearms Possession License, an Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit, a Restricted Radio Operator's License, a Transport Canada Airfield Maintenance Training Program certificate OR a NWT Airfield Maintenance Technician’s certificate and have a satisfactory criminal record check.
Driver's License Requirement
A mandatory requirement for this position is a NWT valid Class 3 Driver's License with air brake endorsement.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Salary Information
The salary for this position starts at $40.85 per hour (approximately $84,968. per annum).
