Reporting to the Manager, Baggage Operations, this position is responsible for the efficient operation of the Terminal 3 Baggage handling system to ensure all passengers flying through Terminal 3 receive their baggage as expected. Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Baggage Systems, the incumbent will assist with the smooth transition of baggage between the customer and the airline/ground handler.
Job Description Key Accountabilities:
- Review and/or plan allocation of departure laterals and carousels using the appropriate system
- Review and/or plan of inbound carousel assignments based on daily flight information using the appropriate system
- Monitoring of the BHS using the SCADA system
- Clearing of Bag jams
- Running reports for misplaced bags, baggage assignments and other reports associated with baggage for Air Carriers
- Performing inspections on the BHS to ensure compliance and report and anomalies to GTAA Facilities
- Trouble shooting system failures
- Ensuring the safe operation of inbound and outbound baggage systems by redirecting ground handlers as required to alternate laterals based on deviations from scheduled operations
- Acting as a first responder to level one (1) x‐ray machine baggage jams, re‐inducting all unanalyzed bags at CTX level three (3) machines, inducting passengers checked baggage at the web check‐in
- Other related duties as required.
Job Requirements Qualifications
- High school diploma is required
- Must possess experience working in an industrial environment
- 2 years’ experience working in an airport environment would be considered an asset.
- Required to obtain a “D/A” class AVOP permit within thirty (30) days of appointment to the position
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must demonstrate proficiency in basic MS Office applications (MS Excel, Word).
- Must be able to lift objects up to 35 kilograms and will be capable of working in restrictive spaces and undertaking strenuous activities such as climbing ladders, lifting, bending, pulling and pushing.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, possess strong interpersonal skills; show initiative, dependability
- Ability to operate tools and equipment
- Must be adaptable and show a mature approach and resourcefulness in dealing with conflict and pressure situations.
- Ability to work rotational shift work (12 hour shifts, 7-days a week) positions
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
