The BC Aviation Council is recruiting a new (Part-time) Executive Director
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors of the BC Aviation Council. This position is a one-year term (with possible extensions), part-time (approximately 20 hours per week within an annual total budget of $36,000), and requires the successful candidate to work independently from their own home/office with some administrative support. This position will report to the Executive Committee of the Board.
CORE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Leadership
- Participate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
- Represent the organization at industry activities to enhance the organization’s profile
- Act as spokesperson for the organization as necessary
- Establish and/or maintain strong relationships with other industry organizations and government
- Work with BCAC committees to develop and coordinate effective events which promote the development of all aviation sectors in BC
Planning and management
- Develop business plans that incorporate the goals and objectives of the organization’s strategic plan
- Review and update website and use social media tools to ensure maximum use and visibility; develop strategy for other communication tools
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization
- Implement volunteer strategy and coordination
- Organize events to increase membership value
- Maintain regular contact with members through a variety of means, engaging them on issues relevant to the industry
- Develop metrics to evaluate success of member events and report on same to the Board
- Develop and implement plans and strategies to double individual membership and increase corporate membership by 50% in five years
- Develop and implement a strategy to increase other revenue streams
- Conduct policy analysis and identify industry growth issues for consideration by the Board
- Arrange meetings with business and government leaders to present aviation opportunities
- Prepare and present financial statements, annual budgets and annual report
- Make recommendations to the Board on policy, financial and membership issues
- Develop and present a monthly work plan and report to the Executive Committee.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profits, including familiarity with the Society Act
- Knowledge of financial management and budget development
- Knowledge of project management
- Knowledge of standard software programs and social media
- Familiarity with the aviation/aerospace industry an asset
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong event planning skills
- Ability to market events to ensure their financial success
- Ability to increase and enhance membership engagement particularly with youth
EXPERIENCE
- 5 or more years of experience in management or a similar position
TERMS
This is initially a one-year term (with possible extensions) contract position, part-time at approximately 20 hours per week, within an annual total budget of $36,000. The contract will begin with a six-month probationary period. The hourly rate will be commensurate with skills and experience. BCAC will provide a work mail/email address. Contractor must have access to their own computer and phone for work purposes.
