Status: Non-Union, Permanent Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager Flight Safety evaluates current and proposed flight operating procedures, practices and policies against daily operations to create a system of checks and balances. Proactively monitors and advises on company activities which may have an impact on flight safety. Ensures concerns are raised, evaluated and mitigated within the Safety Management System to minimize operational risk.
This includes:
• Monitoring and advising on Company flight safety activities which may have an impact on the safety of the operation;
• Administering and maintaining the Flight Data Analysis program;
• Managing long term analysis of a pre-work (flight) risk assessment tool program for all aviation operations groups;
• Soliciting and processing flight safety improvement suggestions;
• Hosting regular Base Safety Officer meetings/teleconferences;
• Coordinating the Directors’ Safety Action Groups;
• Through risk assessment and analysis, identify flight safety deficiencies and make suggestions for corrective action;
• Communicating safety hazards and identified risks with associated operating and support departments. When required, providing assistance with corrective action plans;
• Making recommendations to Senior Management on matters pertaining to flight safety;
• Monitoring the response and measuring the results of flight safety initiatives;
• Presenting an update on flight safety issues to the Operations Manager and the Director, Aviation Safety at the Safety Review meetings;
• Reporting factual information, analyzing casual factors of an occurrence in coordination with the Aviation Safety Office. Make corrective action recommendations to affected departments;
• Investigating flight safety hazards;
• Advising the Operations Manager of issues affecting flight safety that may require communication and awareness;
• Administer and participate in periodic safety surveys;
• Writing summary reports of all activities for various company and Safety communications; and
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-secondary education in Aviation and/or Safety related field;
• Must hold an ATPL and meet the Captain requirements of Ornge Global Air or 750646 Canada Inc.;
• 10+ years of related experience. Strong technical aviation background with risk management and/or flight operations management experience (both fixed wing and rotor wing experience is preferred);
• Strong computer acumen (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook ,Adobe Suite);
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including report preparation;
• Strong Analytical and problem solving skills.
