I. Major Functions: Assists the Director with the work of the section as a technical expert in the domain of airport safety and operations, liaising with ACI regions as required.
II. Major Duties and Accountabilities: Assistance with (as directed):
- Reviewing ACI APEX in Safety reports (e.g. to identify common problems and advise on follow-up actions) and other APEX –related work
- Support to the APEX programme – guidance materials etc
- Reviewing agendas and minutes of ICAO Panel and Study Group meetings to decide when and where to intervene
- Preparation of formal responses to ICAO, including State Letters, working papers, etc
- ACI input to ICAO documents such as Airport Planning Manual, where ICAO is asking the industry to provide input
- Production of ACI Safety Handbooks - e.g. early tasks will include bringing forward handbooks scheduled for 2017 (RFF, Winter Ops) and earlier publication of handbooks scheduled for 2016 (Apron Markings, Airport Construction Work)
- Consultancy – framework and opportunities: could include airport certification, SMS etc
- Events (safety) e.g. ACI World safety symposia, ICAO-ACI Wildlife Symposium (May 2016) Airport Safety Week, cooperation with Regions on their events (e.g. ACI-Europe/Asia-Pacific’s Airport Exchange, etc), ICAO, IATA etc
- Compilation of information on safety and technical issues – eg navigation issues, drones.
- Drafting ACI safety policies
- Collecting and processing ACI safety key performance indicators
- Collating safety information from ACI members
- Liaison with other industry groups
- Drafting of articles for publications

V. Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge/Education :
- University degree in a technical subject, e.g. engineering, design, planning, safety (those with an equivalent qualification may be considered)
- Desirable: supplementary airport or aviation-related professional qualification
- Experience/Years and Type
- Required: at least two years’ aviation experience
- Desirable: experience in airport operations, operational safety and/or safety management systems at an airport, preferably working for an airport operator, with international aviation organization, CAA or other relevant organization
- Desirable: previous experience of working with ICAO, and knowledge of Annex 14
- Desirable: experience in emergency preparedness, contingency planning and/or business recovery
- Desirable: experience in safety auditing and/or inspection
- Desirable: experience in workplace health and safety
- Desirable: experience as an instructor or presenter
- Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written (document-writing, e.g. policies, procedures, recommended practices, manuals) and spoken English skills,
- Working knowledge of other languages desirable –French and/or Spanish an advantage
- Pro-active, collegial, tactful, diplomatic and discreet in all dealings
- Establish and maintain good relationships with ACI staff members,
- Develop close relationships with ACI regional offices
- Ability to work in a service-orientated culture, delivering excellent service levels to ACI members
- Carry out all tasks required effectively, accurately and quickly
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Ability to communicate in a welcoming, effective and dynamic manner
