What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• be responsible for the development, review and implementation of federal legislated regulations and standards for the ministry CARs, 604 & 702 fixed wing and 702 & 703 rotary wing aircraft operations, the operation of the fixed and rotary wing fleet, and ensure the delivery of flight operations that meet Transport Canada's requirements
• provide professional leadership to a highly technical flight and maintenance operations team of managers to ensure the safe and cost effective delivery of quality flight services
• liaise with Transport Canada, Canadian Business Aircraft Association, Canadian State Aircraft Operators Association, Helicopter Association of Canada and provide assistance to the Transportation Safety Board and safety officers during investigations
• plan a complex flight operation program and the delivery of an effective aviation safety management system program
• provide leadership and direction to ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of a highly complex flight operation for a multimillion-dollar fleet of 30 aircraft operating in a diverse environment on a wide range of government programs
• manage the fixed wing and rotary wing flight and maintenance programs
• provide technical direction to senior flight and maintenance management
• work collaboratively with Transport Canada to ensure adherence to all federal regulations regarding aircraft flight and maintenance
• build and maintain relationships with national and provincial partners as well as external stakeholders
• lead the strategic planning, operational audits and decision making processes for the aviation unit
• manage the fiscal and human resources of the aviation unit

How do I qualify?
This position is a mandated Federal Canadian Aviation Regulations position:
• You must meet the requirements of the Aeronautics Act and the specific requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations 604, 702 fixed wing and 703 rotary wing as approved by Transport Canada.
• You must hold or have held the appropriate Airline Transport Pilot License or a Commercial Pilot License and ratings which a pilot-in-command is required to hold for one of the aircraft operated by the MNRF - or - have acquired at least three (3) years of supervisory experience with a private operator or commercial air operator whose operations and activities are of a size, nature and complexity that correspond to the size, nature and complexity of the operations and activities of the Aviation Section.
• You have the ability to successfully complete the Company Aviation Safety Officer (CASO) course.
• You hold a valid passport.
• You are able to pass a Canadian and U.S. Transport Agency Security Screening.
The successful hire must meet all minimum requirements and be approved by Transport Canada.

• You are able to apply political acuity in the management of complex, sensitive and high-profile issues.
• You have experience briefing and informing senior decision-makers.
Technical knowledge and skills:
• You have knowledge and experience in aerial natural resource, fire management and/or bush operations.
• You have thorough knowledge of the Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations, Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations and the requirements of air operations manual.
• You have thorough knowledge and experience in aviation safety management systems.
• You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Salary Range: $80,140 - $103,556 per year (with an additional salary allowance of $9,444)
