What You Will Do
- Reporting to the Manager, Safety the primary focus of this role is workplace safety for the Airport Authority staff. You will be involved with airport security, public safety, construction safety, contractor safety and emergency preparedness. Your primary responsibilities will be to:
- · Manage the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) program which includes: organizing the Certificate of Recognition audit; conducting incident investigations and incident/injury tracking and trend analysis; updating Safe Work Procedures; coordinating annual training programs including First Aid, WHMIS and Defensive Driving.
- · Coordinate and oversee annual Evacuation Drill for all Authority staff at YYC & YBW.
- · Coordinate corporate OH&S events such as NAOSH Week and Tool Check Day.
- · Manage the Authority Asbestos Program by educating staff, tenants and contractors as well as managing the removal of hazardous building materials from the Airport property.
- · Participate in stakeholder meetings as required, providing safety subject matter expertise.
- · Assist with the departmental OH&S programs and coordinate/conduct various safety training sessions.
What You Bring
- Post-secondary education in safety or similar field: degree, diploma or certificate in occupational health and safety; degree in environmental, kinesiology, nursing, or similar; and/or professional equivalent experience.
- Experience in occupational health and safety (e.g. ergonomics; industrial hygiene; job safety analysis; hazard identification/control; workplace inspections; accident investigations).
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License or equivalent, subject to a clean driver’s abstract.
- Solid written and presentation skills with the ability to write, develop and present training documentation, programs, policies and incident reports.
- Ability to effectively build relationships and trust with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, integrity and ethics.
What Else?
Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the
following:
AAE, CRSP or similar designation(s) in airport operations or workplace
health and safety.
Three or more years’ experience managing a workplace safety program
and/or experience with workplace legislative compliance under federal or
provincial codes.
Working knowledge of construction related safety practices and
guidelines, related to hazardous building materials including asbestos
mitigation.
Working knowledge of environmental regulations that pertain to the
storage, use and emergency response of hazardous materials in the workplace.
