The Flight Dispatch Office Manager will be responsible for the day to day administrative management of Flight Dispatch and Weight and Balance employees. In addition, the role will manage a number of different operational requirements for the entire SOC operational division including new hire induction and managing the database for our telecommunication system.

  • Manage and assist in the development of the Flight Dispatch and Weight and Balance employee work schedule including:
    • Review and validation of bi-weekly pay summary entries and resolution of identified issues
    • Management of absenteeism program
    • Manage the annual vacation bid and sector / shift bid
    • Develop, distribute and maintain cost efficient Flight Dispatch employee work schedules inclusive of operational, vacation, regulatory/non-regulatory training, Flight Dispatcher Competency Check and mutual shift trade coverage requirements in compliance with relevant collective agreements
    • Plan and conduct annual vacation and annual recurrent training bids
    • Effective management of the CALDA administrative advance workload assignment process
  • Responsible to manage Air Canada’s adherence to the Night Flight Restriction Program:
    • Research of potential day-of-operations quiet hour flight operations violations;
    • Responding and tracking written correspondence with local airport and Transport Canada authorities to mitigate potential monetary fines or operational restrictions.
  • Responsible for the effective management & deployment of facility and equipment resources for the operational floor in the Operations Control Centre.
  • Responsible for management of the Zetron phone system for the Operations Control Centre with our service provider including liaising with different departments to add and subtract information and managing the design of operational screens.
  • Develop, distribute and maintain all records and advisories concerned with the management of the In-flight Security Officer (IFSO) program. Support the Chief Duty Dispatcher in the event of any irregularities.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Emergency Response Lockout and Business Continuity plans are current and communicated to the Flight Dispatch and Weight Balance teams. Ensure departmental participation in Emergency Response Exercises.
  • Manage and maintain Flight Dispatcher training and qualification records to ensure readiness to pass all internal/external quality and regulatory audits.
  • Manage Flight Dispatcher Familiarization flight program.
  • With the Manager, Flight Dispatch Training & Standards manage the training records for Flight Dispatchers to monitor completion of competency checks, annual recurrent training and other regulatory requirements for Dispatchers to maintain Air Canada Dispatch Certificates.
  • Represent Flight Dispatch at Change Review Committee meetings for the Operations Centre and be our liaison with Corporate Real Estate to coordinate any projects and to manage employee engagement events.
  • Responsible for document control, as per the corporate standards outlined in the Air Canada Corporate Safety Management Manual (SMM).
  • Amend and maintain the Flight Dispatch Operational library, including Aircraft Operating Manual (AOM), Master Equipment List (MEL), Flight Operations Manual (FOM), Canada Air Pilot (CAP), Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), Jeppesen Charts, Flight Dispatch Manual (FDM), Flight Dispatch Training Manual (FDTM), Emergency Response Manual (Pub 400), Operations Specifications, etc.
  • Anticipate, identify, and resolve service and operational issues with a results-oriented approach to performance.
  • Integrate and develop new content and maintain the Flight Dispatch website.
  • Assist in pre-audit preparation for audits performed by Transport Canada, STAR Alliance or any other agency. In addition, provide assistance in the post audit follow-up by determining corrective action plans.

Qualifications
  • Education: Post-Secondary education preferred
  • Aviation background/experience a definite asset
  • Microsoft Office Suite – High proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with LIDO (Lufthansa Integrated Dispatch Operations) is an asset
  • Organizational skills & prioritization abilities are mandatory
  • Team oriented
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills
