Aerodrome Supervisor - (2 Month Term Position)

Our Firebag Aerodrome location is seeking an experienced Aerodrome Supervisor to support our diverse operations for a two (2) month term position ending October 1st, 2016. This is a rotational position with a two (2) week on and two (2) week off shift cycle. Flights and accommodations are provided.

Main Functions: 

The Aerodrome Supervisor is responsible for the overall day-to-day safe, efficient and effective operations and supervision of Aerodrome operations at Firebag on Suncor’s behalf. In addition, supervises Fuel/FBO, Air Carrier Ground Operations and Industrial Charter Operations. The Aerodrome Supervisor reports to Executive Flight Centre (“EFC”) management and liaise with Suncor management on all operations matters.

Responsibilities: 
  • Oversee and ensure the safe and efficient operation of and supervision of Aerodrome operations at Firebag on Suncor’s behalf. In addition, supervises EFC’s Fuel/FBO, Air Carrier Ground Operations and Industrial Charter Operations.
  • Ensure that EFC meets the operational requirements and terms and conditions of EFC’s contract(s) with Suncor.
  • Ensure all regulatory, legislative and industry standards are adhered to including Transport Canada, Canada Labour Code and OH&S regulations, standards and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate, site specific and customer policies and procedures, including EFC’s Ground Operations Manual, through staff training and guidance and leading by example.
  • Provide direction to Firebag Aerodrome leads and staff.
  • Establish and maintain proper procedures and guidelines for safety, including handling hazards, concerns, and emergency situations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the Aerodrome, Operations, Fuel Facilities and Equipment, identifying and rectifying any hazards or concerns identified.
  • Ensure Base is properly maintained in all weather conditions and all equipment and facilities are in good working order.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationship with aerodrome customers, Suncor and EFC Management and other key stakeholders.
  • Efficiently and effectively respond, direct and analyse customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Liaise with EFC and Suncor management, facilitating resolution of issues/problems between business units and/or departments.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate staff levels to meet requirements of the Aerodrome.
  • Assists with recruitment, hiring, terminations, time and attendance and performance management, in conjunction with Human Resources as required.
  • Assist management in preparing and managing annual budgets and control expenditures, working within the parameters of approved budgets.
  • Assist management in developing long term equipment, facility and personnel plans for Aerodrome operations.
  • Administer accounting and payroll functions.
  • Manage and oversee commuter travel and employee accommodations.
  • Assist as necessary with field maintenance, ramp services, passenger services, Aircraft fuelling, de-icing, movement, placement, and storage.
  • Document and provide detailed, current records and reports of Base activities and analyse/report on the daily, monthly and annual Base key performance indicators and industry trends.
  • Monitor departmental performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Ensure exceptional, courteous and respectful customer service through compliance and participation in the Company’s Step Up to Customer Service Program.
  • Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience: 
  • Completion of High School Diploma.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license is required – No Graduated Driver’s License permitted.
  • A clean Driver's Abstract is required as a condition of employment.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in the aviation/airport industry, including ramp services or field maintenance experience, including operation of heavy equipment.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Must be able to obtain all training and certification required by EFC and Suncor’s policies, procedures and standards, including; Ramp Orientation, Pre-Placement Training, Enform Safety Training, ACE Fuel Training, TDGR for Fuel Trucks, IAAE, Dangerous Goods - Transportation/Identification, Runway Inspection, Aircraft De-icing, NATA, WHMIS, First Aid, CPR and AED, Fall Protection/restraint ticket, Skid Steer, Class 3 Airbrakes, and AVOP.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
  • Able to meet all required pre-employment screening including, but not limited to, Oil Sands Safety Orientation (OSSA) and pre-access drug & alcohol test.
  • Able to work in inclement weather, overtime and extended shifts.
  • Highly motivated and able to work with minimal or no supervision.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • A strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Professional, punctual, meticulous and diligent.
  • Able to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
