GardaWorld is the largest provider of aviation services for the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), offering screening services in 28 airports across Canada.

Our Operations Managers undergo specialized training, both in class and on-the-job in order to acquire the knowledge required for screening operations and aviation security, so it is not essential that you have previous security experience, training or licenses.

We are seeking natural leaders with great communication skills and customer service experience that are comfortable working in the airport's high-tech, fast paced environment.

We are currently recruiting an Operations Manager for the Edmonton Airport, on a permanent full-time basis.

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Reporting to the General Manager (GM), the Operations Manager oversees day-to-day operations providing the Checkpoint Managers (CPM) with direction, guidance and support to ensure airport operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

* Oversees and manages all aspects of site planning, organizing, training, monitoring and achieving the overall performance expectations of CATSA, Transport Canada and GardaWorld
* Ensures site operations comply with financial, operational and security procedures, policies and programs
* Monitors operational performance metrics and suggests operational improvements
* Identifies needed performance improvements by analyzing internal data and external best practices. Makes timely, intelligent, realistic recommendations for reactive and proactive change
* Provides GM information to help with long-term strategic planning
* Develops and implements CPM schedules and tracks all vacations, time off, leaves, etc.
* Manages CPM performance day-to-day as well as through formal performance evaluations
* Directs, motivates and coaches the performance of screening personnel
* Communicates and discusses site performance with direct reports regularly
* Oversees and manages all aspects of the CATSA operational staff relationship
* Executes employee programs for direct reports (ex., reward and recognition, retention, recruitment and engagement)
* Conducts interviews for CPM roles in collaboration with GM
* Represent GardaWorld and our Aviation client, CATSA, in a professional matter at all times

Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

* Must be a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident
* No previous criminal background for which a pardon has not been granted
* Available to work and commute day and night shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays
* Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g. business/commerce, business management, etc.) OR equivalent combination of education and experience
* 3 to 5 years’ experience in a related position or field
* Ability to obtain a security clearance and successfully complete a background check
* Must successfully complete a prescribed training program
* Physical requirements include but are not limited to standing for long periods of time

* Proven experience of managing teams

Skill Requirements:

* Strong and proven Leadership and Management skills
* Strong negotiating and influencing skills that promote commitment to action
* High level of comfort dealing with a variety of customer interactions/escalations
* Effective communicator with the ability to listen attentively and maintain respectful and cooperative relationships with passengers, employees and co-workers
* Demonstrated leadership skills necessary to handle on-the-spot decisions and ability to act calmly under pressure
* Collaborative and team oriented individual who is accessible and approachable to staff and conducts him/herself in a manner that portrays fairness, honesty, and integrity
* Ability to demonstrate conflict management, time management and to maintain composure in difficult and challenging situations
* Highly organized and results driven individual who is able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
* Ability to work within a structured, highly regulated environment
* Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite

Assets:

* Previous experience in a unionized environment, airport security and/or sequential operations
* Fluency in French
