Shift Manager, Airfield Maintenance

Reporting to the Associate Director, Airfield Operations, this position is responsible to lead and manage a team of Airport Surface Maintenance Specialists to ensure that movement surfaces airside and groundside at Toronto Pearson are maintained such that they are safe, available and operating to meet our customer’s needs. This is attained through oversight of the team’s completion of the scheduled daily work plan, adjusting priorities to meet demand maintenance and ensuring that the team’s response adheres to established performance standards and protocols.
Job Description
- Manage the execution of day-of maintenance activities to optimize availability of safe and secure systems; including but not restricted to the following GTAA assets:
- Runways & Taxiways
- Service Roads
- Aprons
- Airside and Groundside Turf and Landscaping
- Primary Security Line
- Groundside Roads, Sidewalks and Bridges
- Groundside Parking Infrastructure
- Provide support for the rapid response to maintenance issues related to airside and groundside surfaces
- Manage a team within Airfield Operations including staff hiring, discipline, and budget
- Support to IRROPS including Team’s implementation of the Snow Plan of Operations and Tactics Plan on all airside surfaces and monitoring contracted resources performance
- Executing Airside/Contingency Bussing Plans
- Facilitate conflict resolution within the team
- Acts as the first level step in the grievance process.
- Analyze issues and establish operational priorities, identify and rectify gaps and or changes required to policies, SOP's, or other protocols, and oversee completion of actions
- Analyze team performance and collaboratively develop strategies for improvement
- Develop or assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient operation
- Ensure compliance with applicable policies, rules and regulations including, but not limited to, occupational health & safety, corporate and federal
- Escalate issues to MO AVS as necessary
Job Requirements Qualifications:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation Management; Business Management; Engineering or Logistics would be an asset
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in an airport environment or similar with demonstrated experience in serving a large and complex customer base
- Minimum two (2) years’ Leadership with People Management experience and operations and/or maintenance experience with a strong focus on metrics, including a solid knowledge of Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements to ensure compliance.
- Must have a valid Ontario G Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent)
- Must be able to obtain a D/A AVOP license within 30 days of appointment to the position
- Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

- An ability to anticipate and support the “Day of” operational team as required ensuring Toronto Pearson has a successful day and identification of Key Performance Indicators to support what success looks like
- Excellent communication skills to effectively reach a broad audience of internal and external customers, guests and other key stakeholders
- Knowledge of all aviation and airport related legislation and requirements included but not limited to Public Safety, Security, Security Management Systems (SeMS), IMS practices, environmental policies, Workplace Health & Safety, and all other governances through Transport Canada
- Ability to work 12 hour rotational shift work (days, nights and weekends)
