The Safety Management System (SMS) Manager is responsible for investigating all SMS event reports as
assigned by the Chief Operating Officer and/or Accountable Executive.
The SMS Manager will also track
and complete documented follow ups for all published Corrective Action Plans for CAP effectiveness in
accordance with procedures outlined in the Wasaya Airways LP SMS procedures manual. The SMS
Manager will complete all assigned Safety Case assessments and will be responsible for upkeep of
tracking systems.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Completes all investigations as assigned through the Company’s Safety Management System in
accordance with processes and procedures outlined in the SMS procedures manual
Provide regular and thorough updates to Senior Management on all SMS Events
Complete documented follow-ups to all corrective action plans to ensure task completion,
implementation and effectiveness
Provide feedback to Stations, Management and employees on incidents involving local
employees to ensure enhanced and effective operational conditions
Identify, analyze, and address any trends found within the Safety Management System
Develop and maintain an open and ongoing dialogue with Transport Canada and any applicable
outside agencies
Act as the liaison/facilitator between the employee group(s) and management
Lead or provide support on major projects as assigned by the DoO or DoM
Suggest potential short and long corrective action plans to address safety event reports and,
Employ and monitor progress of Safety Goals and Objectives
Oversee the Occupational Health and Safety program. Including maintenance of the current
Occupational Health and Safety manual and compilation of OH&S records obtained through
OH&S monthly meetings
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
Safety oriented mindset
Investigative ability and analytical skills
5 + years operational aviation experience is an asset
Able to keep and reference accurate records
