The Meadowbank open-pit mine operates since 2010. It’s located in the Kivalliq region and is 100 km north of Baker Lake. The life of mine is expected to end in 2018 and the company is actively exploring the Amaruq deposit located 50 km northwest of the mine. It’s an advanced exploration site that could potentially extend the mine life of Meadowbank and is currently in the permitting phase with a possible start up by 2019. In addition to activities at these sites, a number of support staff also work from offices located in Val d’Or and Mirabel, Quebec. 

Description 
Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager for Nunavut, the Airport Controller maintains the airfield area at the airport located on the Meadowbank site, to ensure the efficient, safe and secure, daily arrivals and departs of the company’s charter, which transports employees and cargo. The incumbent ensures that the goals and objectives are achieved, while respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment. 

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure the safe take-off and landing of aircraft, maintain navigational aids, perform inspections and communicate with air traffic control; 
  • Plan, schedule, organize, supervise and direct operations (arrival, departure, refueling, parking and loading of aircraft); 
  • Ensure airfield safety by monitoring weather conditions, maintenance work, wildlife activity and runway conditions; 
  • Ensure programs are in compliance with the regulatory agencies, implement changes or improvements concerning daily operation of the airfield; 
  • Ensuring proper training of staff; 
  • All communications with air traffic control; 
  • Ensure efficient snow removal operations; 
  • Inspection of runways, airfields and aircraft parking positions; 
  • Direction and control of aircraft movement and vehicles on the r& 
  • Enforcement of aircraft and vehicular operational rules and regulations; 
  • Maintain logs and records, prepare reports; 
  • Management of emergency response; 

Qualifications 
  • College Diploma in Air Traffic or Transportation or Airport Operations Management; 
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role; 
  • Must have training and experience in emergency response; 
  • Experience working in harsh weather conditions would be an asset; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team; 
  • Advanced English language skills, written and spoken; 
Work Schedule 

Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; Flights departing from Mirabel or Val d’Or, Quebec.
