Manager, Baggage Operations - Baggage Operations Department

The Vancouver Airport Authority has a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Manager, Baggage Operations . Reporting to the Director, Baggage Operations, the successful candidate is accountable for all aspects of the baggage product and service including meeting service level targets, as well as liaising with internal and external departments and regulatory agencies. This involves the management of a complex mechanical/electrical/controls/IT system in a complex 24x7 operational environment to process airline checked baggage in order to meet established service levels in a mission critical environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing as the subject matter expert in defining future baggage projects and participating in on-going project delivery of capital baggage system projects
- Establishing defined service metrics and delivering on baggage product performance
- Developing and maintaining customer relationships with airlines, as well as internal and external stakeholders
- Providing contract and vendor management
- Managing and reporting on capital and operating budgets
- Continuously seeking ways to improve the baggage product and operations by identifying system and process enhancements
- Leading a diverse team of dedicated multi-trade, multi-skilled employees, and providing support and direction by: monitoring work efforts and performance, hiring, coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities, conducting formal evaluations and applying appropriate discipline
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Business, Engineering or Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of training and experience; preference will be given to candidates with a P.Eng, ITIL, Lean or Six Sigma designation
- At least three years’ management-level experience including demonstrated experience leading diverse teams, monitoring work efforts and performance, coaching, conducting formal evaluations and applying discipline
- Demonstrated experience managing capital and operating budgets
- Proven high level of independent judgment
- Ability to collaborate with peers, customers and service providers in order to provide 24x7 service and remediation when required
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills in order to prioritize with in a complex portfolio
