Airport Operations Technician Level 1

Our Nanaimo
Airport location is seeking experienced Airport Operations Technicians to
support our diverse operations.
Main Functions:
Airport
Operations Technicians work to ensure the safety, protection and maintenance of
the Nanaimo Airport property, personnel and information.
Responsibilities:
·
Patrol inside and outside of all airport areas
including; the terminal building, various facility buildings and airside
restricted areas via fixed post, roving controls on foot and/or in vehicle.
This includes the monitoring of passengers and conducting physical checks of
all fences, gates, hazard beacons, building doors, and parking lots, including
traffic and taxi/shuttle areas.

Coordinate and enforce parking control,
terminal curbside safety and pedestrian traffic control.
·
Monitor, operate and maintain security
equipment including; videos, computers, radios, and phones.
·
Record keeping and report writing including
maintaining a (digital) security log book.
·
Ensure that the Facility’s Safety and
Emergency Procedures are followed in response to fire alarms and other site emergencies. This will include monitoring alarms systems,
site access system and responding in accordance with the site procedures.

Detect or prevent thefts and vandalism as
required.
·
Perform workplace safety inspections as
required and demonstrate an active interest in promoting safety consciousness
for everyone at the Nanaimo airport including employees, passengers, customers
and visitors.
·
Monitor and record environmental and weather
conditions.
·
Perform facility landscaping and maintenance duties
including but not limited to; grass cutting, weeding gardens, picking up litre
and waste control on site.
·
Perform other general labour duties as required in the
terminal building and on the airport property.
·
Perform winter safety mitigation duties, including
de-icing, shovelling walkways, apron and parking areas during snow events and
providing safety support for airport customers.
·
Perform tests and report on various airfield
operations including but not limited to; surface conditions reports, runway
friction tests, wildlife control measures and airside intervention.
·
Complete required site specific and EFC
training.
·
Perform logistical support duties at the terminal
building as required.
·
Follow direction and guidance from the Nanaimo
Airport Authority and EFC.
·
Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride
in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
·
Ensure exceptional, courteous and respectful customer
service through compliance and participation in the Company’s Step Up to
Customer Service Program.
·
Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health
& Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
·
Perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
·
Completion
of High school diploma.
·
Previous
security experience is an asset.
·
Previous
experience in the aviation industry in a similar role would be an asset.
·
Able to obtain an airport
security clearance.
·
A
valid class 5 driver’s license is required – No Graduated Driver’s License
permitted.
·
First
Aid and CPR would be an asset.
·
Security
Services License.
·
Excellent written and
verbal communications skills.
·
Meticulous
Record Keeping, Report Writing, Observation skills.
·
Able
to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
at all times.
·
Able
to work various weekday, evening and weekend shifts.
·
Professional appearance and
behaviour while providing superior customer service.
·
Demonstrate judgment, common sense and
decision-making ability, particularly when required to take charge and direct
others in emergencies or other incidents.
·
Must
be physically fit and able to meet the physical demands of the position which
include but are not limited to; standing and/or sitting for long periods of
time, reaching above/below shoulders, bending/squatting/kneeling to perform
searches and lifting/pushing/pulling luggage and other heavy items.
·
Able
to work well under pressure.
·
Able
to work with the public and deal with conflict resolution.
·
Able
to work within a structured and highly regulated environment.
·
Highly motivated and able
to work well with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
·
Professional,
punctual, meticulous and diligent.
·
Able
to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
