The Company Safety Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining the Company Safety Program. The Company Safety Officer shall report to the Vice President of Operations and the Vice President of Maintenance and will have direct access to the President and all Managers on flight safety related issues JOB DESCRIPTION •Conduct performance monitoring and oversight of the flight safety, maintenance safety and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs; •Lead in the identification and risk mitigation process for flight safety, maintenance safety and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) hazards; •Investigate and prepare reports for all aviation safety incidents, accidents, occurrences and findings as identified through Aviation Safety Reports, Irregularity Reports, Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System and internal/external audits; •Responsible for Flight Safety Awareness and Training programs; •Develop, implement and maintain a non-punitive incident reporting program; •Coordinate resolution of flight safety deficiencies that involve one or multiple branches; •Disseminate safety awareness related information; •Prepare, implement and maintain an Emergency Response Plan; •Create thorough safety reports for the monthly management meeting outlining the Company’s flight safety performance for the period; •Liaise with external flight safety organizations and federal aviation agencies regarding current and relevant flight safety topics and issues; •Assist the Manager, Safety Management System with the implementation of SMS policies and procedures; JOB REQUIREMENTS •Extensive operational experience, normally achieved as a flight deck crew member; •High School Diploma though University Degree or Aviation College Diploma strongly preferred; •Proficient in the English language: both written and spoken; •Aviation audit training an asset; •Knowledge of aviation safety management regulations and aviation security regulations; •Sound knowledge of MS Office products; •Self-starter with demonstrated leadership, problem solving, planning, organizational, and time management skills; •High degree of diplomacy and discretion when dealing with sensitive security, public relations, and government relations issues; •Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure; •Thrives in a fast-moving environment, with a high tolerance for change; •Motivated team player who can work in an autonomous and/or team setting; •Flexible and willing to work irregular hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS •The Company Safety Officer shall complete training in the following areas: •Aviation safety philosophy, including Safety Management System theory •Human Factors and Decision Making •Risk Management •Accident/Incident management and prevention •Aviation Safety Surveys •Internal Reporting Systems •Incident Investigation The Company Safety Officer’s professional development and currency should be maintained through other industry wide conferences and training courses. The Company Safety Officer will also undergo audit training provided by Air Canada, IATA or an equivalent organization.
