WHAT YOU WILL DO The Environmental Technician is suited for a Jr. environmental professional or new grad and is responsible for supporting the environment portfolios of water, vegetation, wildlife and noise. The person in this role will collect, analyze, monitor and manage environmental data in order to support the Environmental Specialists. The Environmental Technician role is also responsible for assisting the team of Environmental Specialists develop and update Environmental Management Plans and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain a positive environmental performance as well as assist with the development and maintenance of Environmental Polices for YYC, tenant and contractor activities. Reporting to the Director, Environmental Services the key responsibilities of this role are: • Water Quality Monitoring o Conduct surface and ground water sampling o Maintain water quality result database with accurate results o Interpret water quality analysis reports and complete data entry related to analysis o Provide assistance to Environmental Specialist on quarterly and annual water quality reports; both internal and external o Storm water monitoring at end of pipe locations to ensure regulatory compliance • Other Data Management & Analysis/Interpretation o Organize and analyze statistics for Federal, Provincial, Municipal and internal reports, studies and presentations o Analyze and trend data and information to proactively identify issues before they become a problem o Noise Management Program/Reporting • Wildlife Surveys and Data Management o Assist the Wildlife Program Manager with wildlife surveys o Track, trend and analyze data with regards to wildlife and aviation safety o Present statistics for various reports, including the creating of an Annual Report for Bird and Wildlife • Vegetation Monitoring o Conduct vegetation surveys and assessments o Track, trend and analyze vegetation data • Assist Environmental Specialists with o Environmental approvals o Investigations into noise complaints o Response to spills as required WHAT YOU BRING • Post-secondary environmental education with a good understanding of environmental management • Working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal environmental regulations • Strong analytical skills with the ability to statistically evaluate technical data • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word and Power Point • Strong verbal communication to meet and build relationships with stakeholders • Strong written and documentation skills • Excellent interpersonal skills • Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License, subject to a clean driver’s abstract • Must have the ability to secure and maintain an Airport Vehicle Operators Permit, Radio Operators License and Fire Arm License • Must be able to meet the requirements of a safety-sensitive position • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) WHO WE ARE We are more than just planes and tarmacs.
