Job Description
This position provides operational and flying support to faculty and students in the School of Aviation by assisting with in- flight learning activity and participating in all aspects of flight operations.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Facilitating safe practice of flying skills through demonstration, observation and delivery of feedback in the aircraft or flight training device for second year students and for first year students only after foundational instruction has been received from a faculty member (professor or instructor);
- Ensuring compliance with applicable aviation regulations and student adherence to general conduct and safety rules;
- Monitoring student learning plans will follow-up as required, reporting cancellations and sick days to FOSS;
- Conducting pre-flight and post-flight briefings;
- Participating in all aspects of flight operation routines to ensure in-flight safety (i.e. hangar duties, opening the fuel tank, de- icing, etc.);
- Answering student questions about technical and administrative matters;
- Directing students to course material and other resources, and referring students to faculty for explanation;
- Conducting group tutoring sessions on topics as directed by faculty;
- Identifying potentially defective equipment and engaging in basic troubleshooting;
- Assisting faculty with invigilation of tests;
- Assisting faculty in the creation of training aids (i.e. manuals, slides, videos);
- Preparing and submitting technical reports and supporting Chair and CFI with ongoing quality control/assurance in the
- School of Aviation as assigned;
- Archiving Pilot Training Documents as per Transport Canada requirements;
- Conducting guided tours of community partners, potential students and family members; and
- Working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
