Accountabilities

Controls the domestic and international NOTAM* systems; disseminates national/international information vital for the safe, efficient and economic use of national and international air operations; reacts immediately to system failures of the automated NOTAM system; and responds to enquiries from domestic/foreign/military/air carriers and the general aviation public.

  • NOTAM – A notice containing information concerning the establishment, condition or change in any aeronautical facility, service, procedure or hazard, the timely knowledge of which is essential to personnel concerned with flight operations

Education

Successful completion of secondary school OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Post-secondary education would be considered an asset

Experience

  • Significant and diversified experience in using the Canadian Air Navigation System consistent with experience such as a pilot, air traffic controller, air navigator, flight service station specialist or operational support specialist in the operational environment.
  • Experience in the processing of aeronautical information.
  • Experience in the use of computer applications.

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of aviation operations, airspace designations and structures, air navigation aids, airport facilities services and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of aeronautical information services and products.
  • Good knowledge of aircraft operations, communication equipment and procedures.
  • Knowledge of air regulations, air navigation orders, NAV CANADA policies and practices, ICAO standards and recommended practices.
  • Knowledge of operational needs of other NAV CANADA facilities and flight operators. (i.e. Air Traffic Control Centres, Flight Service Stations, military and civilian flight operations and local airport authorities)

Abilities

  • Ability to use complex database systems and other automated tools in the work environment.
  • Ability to effectively identify problems and recommend solutions in a technically complex work environment.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and edit aeronautical information in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively organize time and workload.

Language Requirements

Bilingual
