As you are well aware, many students are experiencing financial challenges as a
result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I am writing today to provide an
update on the steps we are taking to help support BCIT students hardest-hit in
this situation.
In an effort to help alleviate some of the financial stress students may be
facing, BCIT has established a BCIT Student Emergency Support Fund to provide
one-time, non-repayable funding to support currently registered students
impacted by this crisis. This emergency funding can be used to help with a
broad range of costs including living expenses, food, travel, technology, and
other emergency expenses.
This limited funding is intended for BCIT students who have been hardest hit
financially by the current pandemic, and who are experiencing an unexpected
financial emergency that may alter their studies. When accessing this fund,
students will need to demonstrate financial need, and are asked to review the
various sources of additional funding available to them based on their own
unique situation. This could include funding such as government relief funds,
rent subsidies, and student loans. Due to limited funding, we regret that we
will not be able to provide funding to all who apply.
Details about how to apply for the BCIT Student Emergency Support Fund can be found on the BCIT Student Financial Aid and Awards website. Applications are available effective immediately, and must be submitted by November 13, 2020.
BCIT cares about our students’ well-being; financial and otherwise. For more information on the supports and services that are currently available, please visit Supports & Services During COVID-19.
Wishing you well,
Lisa Collins,
Vice President, Students
