Control Specialist (AOC) - Calgary Airport Authority

 Reporting to the Manager, Airport Operations Control and to the Manager Operations, Airport during the shift, the Airport Operations 

Control Specialist (AOC) provides the front-line customer service for the Airport Community and ensuring appropriate response 
procedures are enacted appropriately. This role is responsible for monitoring various airport systems to proactively identify issues that 
impact day-of operations. The AOC is a generalist with knowledge of the operations across the entire YYC campus and the facility 
maintenance programs that support it.

Here’s more of what you will do as our Airport Operations Control Specialist:
• Act as a central point of contact for airport communications by monitoring multiple radio channels and phone lines, determining 
the appropriate responder(s) or resource to attend, and recording all actions related to operational events. AOC Specialists:
o Triage calls for priority and severity
o Dispatch resources as required and provide status updates based on established operating procedures
o Initiate and track events as they are occurring
o Initiate mass notification system for events impacting the Airport Community
o Complete incident reports and/or work orders related to occurring events
 
• Monitoring events and record event status. Perform follow up actions to determine the status of incomplete events and 
reporting findings and escalating as required for appropriate follow up action
• Act as an ambassador of the Airport Authority when assisting stakeholders with various queries;
• Report all known or suspected safety concerns and/or operational concerns to the on-shift Manager Operations, Airports (MOA)
• Document and report all complaints, problems, incidents, events, activities, deficiencies or concerns and inform the MOA before 
the end of the shift;
• Establish role as communication lead during emergency incidents, monitor the event and record actions and decisions. 
Implement actions as requested by the MOA or other personnel in the IOC• Maintain incident reporting systems which detail activities, events, reports, etc.; 
• Implement responses and procedures as published or directed by the MOA or other personnel in the IOC;
• Complete other associated duties (follow up on for completion, update documentation, etc.) as may be assigned from time to 
time; 
• Initiate and coordinate emergency incidents, monitor the event and record actions and decisions related to the response
• Observe and Respond to Facility Monitoring Systems
• Monitor various facility monitoring systems located in the IOC including but not limited to:
 
o The Building Management System (BMS): Airside Electrical, Underpasses, Lift Stations, etc.
o The Baggage Handling System SCADA 
o VAISALA Lightning Monitoring System
o Fire Alarm System
 
• Daily reporting tasks:
o Daily operational briefings 
o End of day shift reports 
o Incident reports 
 
WHAT YOU BRING 
 
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in airport operations or an acceptable combination of education and/or experience in an 
airport operations environment
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience within an airport or aviation environment with emergency dispatch and/or call center
experience
• Knowledge of all aspects of airport operations and facility maintenance management
• Knowledge of the IOC and Day of Delivery Team roles and responsibilities and YYC Standard Operating Procedures
• The ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and resolve issues. Be proactive in mitigating potential operational issues, work in a 
stressful environment, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. 
• You are adaptable to change, respond to conflicting demands and changing priorities in a diplomatic manner and are agile and 
flexible to changing priorities
• A detailed knowledge of the characteristics and operating procedures of all airlines, airport tenants, and agencies, both on and 
off the airport
• Strong computer and keyboarding skills including:
o Ability to obtain a minimum of 35 words per minute with 90% accuracy
o Proficient in MS Office
• Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment in a customer centric environment and the ability to concentrate in a hectic
environment
