We have an exciting permanent, full-time opportunity for a Manager, Communications, reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications. The successful candidate will lead a team of four Communications Specialists and is accountable for all facets of corporate communications including media relations, issues management, crisis communication planning, internal communications and community engagement. Most importantly, they lead efforts to protect and enhance our reputation and have the ability to influence and amplify our corporate messages to truly make a difference to our community and the economy that supports it.

Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing Corporate Communications in line with Strategic Plan
- All facets of corporate reporting including Annual & Sustainability Report, regulatory advertisements and distribution
- Coordination of proactive media relations activities between the different areas within the Marketing & Communications department to ensure the most effective use of earned media including training spokespeople
- Departmental communications support by developing specific strategies to match each department’s goals and objectives
- Supporting major development initiatives and construction projects by designing and managing comprehensive and strategic community engagement and consultation programs
- Developing integrated communication strategies related to strategic plan including the overarching story as well as stakeholder impacts, construction communications, board requirements and media opportunities
- Managing corporate speech writing and presentation development including identifying and planning opportunities for managers and executives to deliver annual Speakers Bureau speech around the province
- Providing crisis communications support in the event of a medium-to-large incident
- Participating in yearly business planning and budgeting process and managing budgets and project process through the year
- Effectively managing key agency relationships and corporate procurement processes
- Supporting team members and ensuring performance management processes are followed; this includes monitoring work efforts and performance, hiring, coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities, conducting formal evaluations and applying appropriate discipline
- At least five years’ experience in (a) senior role(s) working with communications, community engagement or consultation, supplemented by a university degree in Communications or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- A proven track record in leading, coaching and guiding a team
- Exceptional writing – including technical writing, grammar and editing skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of local media landscape with proven media relations skills
- Strong collaboration skills as participant in complex cross department projects
- Proven critical thinking and decision making skills as the scope is broad and the potential for major impact to reputation is extensive
- Team player with well-developed emotional and social intelligence to coach a high performing team.
- Ability to manage large projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, agile work environment
