Up-date from Ellie Huey

Ellie Huey
Ellie Huey has been blogging about life in the Airport Operations program for BCIT Life for just about a year now.  It's been interesting and exciting to learn about Ellie's experiences - like the SWIFT Scholarship that took her to Montreal, or the practicums that gave her the opportunity to coordinate the volunteers for the full-scale Emergency Exercise at YVR. Now that Ellie is about to graduate (February 26), she is hanging up her BCIT bloggers hat, and we are certainly going to miss her - but are looking forward to finding out where her career in aviation takes her next!

Airport Operations Diploma Promo!(Originally Posted on October 31, 2015 by Ellie Huey)
As part of our Public Relations in Aviation class, we were tasked with creating a short video promoting the Airport Operations program to the aviation community, showcasing our creativity and focusing on the skills, knowledge, and qualities that differentiate us from other graduates. Like I’ve mentioned before, I absolutely love the fact that we aren’t sitting behind a desk for the entire program – I had a lot of fun filming this video with my classmates and friends: Stephen Van DolderBenjamin Lai, and Kristian Cu (who edited the entire video)!  Click here to see Ellie's article - and the team's video.

Ellie Huey, Student Blogger
Ellie Huey, Airport Operations Class 20 class rep and student blogger for BCIT Life has an update from her most recent class, Community and Public Relations for Aviation.

Ellie says that  "the Community and Public Relations for Aviation course in our program provides an introduction to public relations techniques and strategies in an aviation environment. We learn about theory and development, issues management, media relations, demographics, and public relations ethics, while examining communication with the various audiences of an airport or airline."  But what does that mean to Ellie?  Click here to find out!

Ellie Huey - Airport Operations Practicum

Ellie Huey
Between Terms 2 and 3, and again between Terms 3 and 4, Airport Operations students have the opportunity to take skills and knowledge from the classroom to work in an industry setting through practicum experiences.  The practicums offer students a chance to expand their learning while working directly with key industry employers.

Industry employers also benefit by having students to help with defined projects that range from market research to drafting required manuals and maintenance issues.  Students and employers match needs with interests, abilities to ensure that everyone benefits from the practicum experience.

Ellie Huey, blogger for BCIT Life has had a busy summer practicum!  In four recent blog posts over the past several weeks, she talks about her practicum experience at YVR.  Take a moment to check out Ellie's experience:  Wildlife Management, Canadian Airports Safety Week, I love YVR , and Quest for AEDs

Wildlife Management at YVR,

Posted on July 30, 2015 by Ellie Huey

I’m very excited to be working on a project in the Wildlife Management Department (situated in the Airside Operations Building) as part of my five-week practicum at YVR.  As an introduction to the department, I had the coolest experience yesterday morning. I got to drive out onto the airfield with Wildlife Program Specialist David Bradbeer to collect a Barn Owl from a raptor trap.  Please click here to see the rest of Ellie's latest story!

My Life at BCIT, byEllie Huey

Denis, Viny, Nicole and Ellie at WAI event
Ellie Huey (far right in photo), from Airport Operations Class 20 has just posted a new article to her Life at BCIT blog about the Women in Aviation International (WAI) event she attended with a few classmates.

As Ellie points out, "Since enrolling in the Airport Operations program and attending various events, forums, and conferences, networking in aviation has become increasingly comfortable (even as an introvert). The more you know, the more there is to talk about – and we have gained a lot of aviation knowledge and experience through the diploma program and our workplace practicums. I’ve been seeing more and more familiar faces every time I attend an event."  Click here to read all about it!
