The Vancouver Airport Authority has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Manager, Maintenance Services in the Maintenance Services Department. Reporting to the Director, Maintenance Services, the successful candidate will provide leadership, supervision and direction for the safe and efficient daily operations of a dedicated group of multi-trade employees and assist with the planning, coordination and direction of equipment and infrastructure on Sea Island.


Key responsibilities include:
• Providing direction to a Maintenance Crew which includes managing a diverse workforce, monitoring work efforts and performance, and coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities
• Providing solutions to problems in areas such as: runway lighting systems; HVAC controls; PLC’s; power production and distribution; heat production; material handling systems; building automation; fire alarms and fire suppression systems
• Leading root cause failure analysis investigations
• Identifying maintenance and reliability improvement opportunities to increase productivity and drive performance
• Identifying opportunities in energy conservation
• Working in a team environment and involving key site stakeholders in solutions and plans
• Leading and participating in all safety and technical training
• Collaborating to develop safe work practice procedures for maintenance team
• Cultivating a safe, effective and efficient maintenance group that is team based and focused on continuous improvement of planning, scheduling and plant reliability

Key qualifications include:
• Certified as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist or registered as a Professional Engineer (having an Interprovincial Tradespersons Qualification(s) is an asset)
• Minimum of five years’ management experience in a maintenance environment
• Extensive experience with planned maintenance systems
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets
• Familiarity with contract law
• Proven experience leading and motivating a highly skilled team of professionals with the ability to nurture a work environment that is proactive, flexible and responsive to change
• Ability to use experience and sound judgment in making decisions and recommendations
• Strong communication skills with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Proficient knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling practices
• Valid driver’s licence

Shift and weekend work are required, as the Airport Authority’s Maintenance Department is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  As part of our recruitment process, short-listed candidates will be required to take part in a management assessment process.
