The SMS Investigator - Rotary is responsible for day-to-day support on all safety management system related activities in Summit's rotary division. This position monitors safety reports, investigates incidents and accidents, and makes recommendations to improve the safety of rotary flight operations.
Responsibilities
- • Reviews incoming daily reports in the SMS database, and gathers additional information in support of such reports
- • Assists in investigation of near-misses, incidents and accidents
- • Assists in investigation, analysis, and identification of the cause or probable cause of hazards, incidents, and accidents and their respective corrective actions
- • Ensures timely feedback to employees on all submitted SMS reports
- • Communicates safety-related information and key learnings from investigations to employees and management
- • Participates in safety meetings, prepares notes and agendas
- • Monitors and evaluates the results of corrective and preventive actions on hazards, incidents and accidents
- • May perform other related duties as assigned
- • 1-2 years’ experience in a transportation-related safety role with a strong investigative component is required; experience in the helicopter industry is highly preferred
- • Post-secondary education in Aviation Safety an asset
- • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel, is required
- • Previous experience with Safety Management Systems preferred
- • Knowledge of the following would be an asset: aviation-related safety programs; safety standards applicable to aviation operations; accident causation and prevention theory; safety margins; risk management techniques; human error
- • Good organizational, interpersonal, communication and writing skills
- • Above average problem solving and decision making skills
- • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all employee and corporate matters
- • Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision
