Job Description:
The Manager of Aviation Safety provides strong leadership, ensuring that all aviation activities are conducted in compliance with all applicable statutes and that safety is ensured in all endeavors for both rotary and fixed wing aircraft in the Province of Ontario.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Maintain and administer all aspects of the SMS system including but not limited to auditing, risk assessment, hazard reporting, safety training, documentation, findings, corrective and preventative actions, and root cause analysis;
•Develop and execute initial SMS training for all aviation employees;
•Manage the contracted carrier safety oversight program, including the third party audit program;
•Develop, review and analyze safety performance measures at all levels to give meaningful feedback to Management;
•Prepare financial analysis for applicable contracts;
•Set quarterly and annual safety goals to align the Aviation Safety Office with operation objectives.
•Travel as required.
•Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in aviation safety management;
•Minimum 5 years of experience in the development and administration of an SMS system in an aviation environment;
•Minimum 5 years of experience in aviation operations, or an aviation related field or equivalent
•Minimum 3 years Managerial experience;
•Experience in a regulated industry – Transport Canada, CARs & CASS, or equivalent;
•Industry recognized auditor accreditation, investigation training and/or operational risk management training would be considered an asset
•Accreditation from a recognized Aviation Management Program, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, or Commercial Pilot’s License would be considered an asset.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office and Databases, with advance Excel skills;
•Ability to translate data into information;
•Superior analytical and problem solving skills;
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report preparation;
•Strong organizational skills and project management skills.
•Demonstrated excellence in communication, customer service and team building with the ability to initiate and model positive change.
