Calgary Airport Authority is currently recruiting an Airport Planner - Three Year Term Position

 Reporting to the Manager, Airport Planning, this position will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Responsible for the management, preparation and/or QA/QC of various airport planning studies;
  • Provide input and comments on due diligence reports, development requests and design reviews to ensure all development on airport is within the prescribed limits and standards as outlined in various aerodrome standards, regulations and agreements;
  • Liaise with other Authority departments regarding land use and facility planning needs;
  • Assist in the development of Concept and/or Outline Plans for various precincts of the airport and develop planning solutions to meet airport facility development needs;
  • Provide input to multiyear, multi disciplined planning program: seek capital funding, engage consultants and manage contracts for a variety of airport plans, studies and analyses;
  • Prepare annual capital project requirements, concepts and funding requests to support the capital program.
  • Update and maintain airport planning database for the primary airport systems including:  airfield, terminal building and ground transportation;
  • Work with stakeholders both internal and external to determine requirements for conceptual plans and detailed designs;
  • Work with airport consultants to develop future infrastructure concept plans;
  • Forecast impact to operations and interface conflicts between projects;
  • Support Manager, Airport Planning and Director, Planning Services with day to day tasks.

Basic Requirements
  • Strong knowledge base in the areas of airport planning, operations and design;
  • Strong analytical skills related to studying groundside, airfield and terminal capacity issues;
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines as they relate to airport planning and design;
  • Education in Airport Planning, Civil Engineering or Urban Planning with combined relevant job experience;
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, MS Project, Excel, Word, Power Point and Access
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills are essential.

Additional Requirements
  • General and well balanced knowledge of disciplines including airport engineering, commercial development, land development and land use planning, municipal planning, transportation and traffic engineering, construction practices, utilities and services, storm water management and airport operations;
  • Knowledge of airport modeling software as well as AutoCAD experience;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Astute attention to detail, self motivated, proactive and creative;
  • Strong organizational, follow-up and priority-setting skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced changing environment;
  • Ability to apply economic analysis knowledge of life cycle costing, construction cost estimates, payback periods and conduct cost benefit analysis.
