Manager of Public Affairs and Communications

The Canadian Airports Council (the Canadian Division of the Airports Council International - North America) seeks a Manager of Public Affairs and Communications. Reporting to the CAC president, the candidate will provide public affairs and communications support to the organizations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of materials for member and public consumption, including presentations, media releases, articles, etc… The successful candidate also will monitor developments on Parliament Hill and in the media to inform association activities and conduct research to support these activities.

Public Affairs 
  • Create tactical plans to support government relations activities
  • Conduct research on policy areas
  • Prepare presentations and handouts that can tell a story and support government relations activities
  • Monitor activities of Parliament, including legislation and committee activities of note
Communications 
  • Draft correspondence, speeches, bylined articles, press releases and other related content
  • Serve as the initial media contact, maintain updated lists of key media, stakeholder and government contacts, assist executive assistant in contact management updating
  • Serve as primary liaison with ACI-NA Washington communications staff
  • Manage the CAC’s internal and external Web sites, newsletter, monthly reports to members and Twitter account
  • Monitor media for relevant articles and keep record of media clippings
  • Project manager for program planning and coordination for the Airports Canada 2015 Conference and Exhibition
Qualifications and Experience: 
  • Undergraduate degree in political science, communications, journalism or other related industry
  • Functionally bilingual
  • 3-5 years of public affairs/communications work experience, with media relations experience a strong asset
  • Knowledge of federal parliamentary process and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with senior level executives and officials
  • Experience and comfort drafting documents under tough time constraints
  • Experience and comfort preparing presentations and speeches
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Web tools
  • Proficiency with industry-standard desktop publishing, graphic design and web-publishing software a strong asset
  • Association experience, knowledge of government workings and understanding of aviation industry issues are assets
