The Ground Operations and Airline Partnerships Manager will be a leader accountable for all ground handling activities, baggage and arrival area processes as well as the management of interline and code share relationships. With a strong emphasis on safety and security, operational excellence, cost management and guest experience, the successful candidate will ensure that below the wing activities are conducted safely, efficiently and that processes for the management of baggage transfer and partnership relationships are in place.
As a Ground Operations and Airline Partnerships Manager, you will:
- Ensure team compliance to WestJet and Transport Canada safety and security management standards and respond accordingly to action items
- Manage the ground handling contract to ensure service level standards are met and costs are contained
- Ensure contracted ground handlers and baggage staff are operating safely while working in the baggage and ramp areas while servicing WestJet aircraft
- Ensure compliance with all local safety and security processes and manage relationships with GTAA and ground handler’s safety team
- Identify strategic opportunities within the Airport community & facility that will enhance service and improve operations
- Ensure baggage handling processes are clearly defined, consistent and guest service standards are met
- Work with corporate partnership teams and local airline partners to establish and maintain relationships. Meet with airline partners on a regular basis to further evolve relationships and proactively identify issues and opportunities
- Ensure the local codeshare and interline connection processes are established and work with the leadership team to ensure front line teams are trained and compliant
- Provide guidance on long term and day of baggage services staffing levels consistent with required service levels and operating budget
- Work with the airport authority and contractors to ensure facility standards are established and maintained
- Review and provide guidance in the development of ground handler processes
- Ensure ground handler consistently follows WestJet’s Ground Operations Manual
- Local representative on airport operations committees relating to airside operations management including airside safety, Ops sub-committee etc.
- Identify process improvements and corrective action plans for service failures and trends by ground handler and baggage team
- Assist in the development of contingency plans for degraded modes of operation (i.e. baggage system)
- Trending of pilferage and security related incidents involving internal/external agencies
- Liaison between local security committees, agencies and corporate security team
- Manage the contracts and costs associated with IROP transportation and baggage delivery
- Development of local baggage IROP process and recovery plans
- Oversee in-house procedures for baggage service office to ensure that guest possessions are secure and can be accounted for
- Monitoring and compliance of baggage services processes and procedures
- Manage relationships with Ground Handler, CATSA, CBSA, CBP, Transport Canada, Airport Authority and other air carriers
- Ensure that below the wing safety audits are complete and corrective action plans are in place for any identified trends
- Forecast volume trends and ensure that baggage service and ground handler have equipment and staffing to meet changing business demands
- Monitor relevant key performance indicators and develop and implement improvement strategies to ensure established targets are met or exceeded with an emphasis on baggage delivery standards, safety and SPOT
- Responsible for developing and supporting excellent employee relations and performance management processes with the baggage service team in line with WestJet Culture and People Department objectives
- Work collaboratively with ACT representatives at the base to respond to employee concerns
- Performance management and development of the Baggage Services Manager and baggage team.
An ideal applicant will possess these essential qualifications and skills:
- A minimum of 3 years airport operations leadership experience is required
- A minimum of 3 years experience in a high volume airport operation with a significant level of internal and external dependencies and relationships is an asset
- Experience in all aspects of airport operations including above and below the wing operations and airport wide flight management processes
- Proven track record leading a team to meet operational and performance targets
- Track record of developing and leading effective teams
- Excellent ability to multitask & handle changing priorities
- Available on an on call as need bases to participate in the coordination and management of elevated IROPS and systemic issues
- Proficient in PC based applications, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Outlook
