Area Manager, Hub (Calgary & Edmonton) Basic Purpose of Position:
Organize, direct and manage airport activities at HUB stations as well as smaller regional airports. Relating to passenger, baggage and cargo handling, aircraft/ramp procedures, fuelling, de-icing, bridging, grooming.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain company emergency procedures/local airport emergency procedures and ensure employees remain current with said procedures.
- Manage and ensure compliance with all safety and operational standard operating procedures – SOP.
- Plan staffing levels to meet schedule and capacity changes.
- Ensure completion of weekly safety checklists –and follow up on any deficiencies.
- Monitor ground handling contractor performance and compliance with operating procedures and GSE maintenance.
- Provide direction and follow-up regarding correction of determined deficiencies.
- Manage any 3rd Pty contracts by appropriating manpower and resources in most cost efficient manner.
- Manage and monitor station delays/OTP and head starts.
- Lead local OSH committees – meetings, action, implementation, investigation EE injury and required follow up.
- Review and provide recommendations for station schedule changes and participate in internal unstacking meetings to provide constructive feedback.
- Understand, support and communicate departmental/corporate direction in a timely manner.
- Complete Investigations in the event of any incident and prepare Executive Summaries for Review.
- Manage frontline Unifor staff at multiple locations, in multiple classifications and conduct regular station visits.

- Encourage ongoing teamwork in meetings, open dialogue, team challenges and informal collective experiences.
- Promote Employee Engagement and build Jazz culture.
- Coach and provide direction to employees to ensure consistent quality completion of responsibilities.
- Address individual performance issues as they arise following standard Jazz performance management practices. This includes discipline up to termination.
- Recognize employees for outstanding performance in timely and appropriate manner.
- Manage and address AWP CAP and Availability for all direct reports.
- Act as Management liaison between Flight operations, Inflight Service and Aircraft Maintenance at Station to facilitate a cohesive operation.
- Establish clear and agreed-upon accountabilities with direct reports and provide annual performance reviews where required.
- Develop a full understanding and manage all aspects of the Unifor Collective Agreement.
- Establish and maintain a positive rapport with local and regional union representatives
- Participate in information gathering into the grievance process and participate at grievance hearing as required.
- Provide support by attending union management meetings
- Maintain care and control of Station property and facilities, renovations, equipment procurement & repair.
- Review Transport Canada Security audits of local screening procedures and direct correction of any reported deficiencies.
- Plan and prepare resources for revenue operations including charters, de-icing, training, equipment rentals.
- Manage and maintain business relationships with AC reps in each of the following areas; Government/Community relations, scheduling, marketing, cargo, Airports.
- Manage and maintain business relationships with AA, Canada and US Customs and Immigration, TC, TSA and CATSA.
- Represent Jazz and AC at ACC and other working group meetings
- Manage business relationships with contractors and vendors.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, the safety of co-workers and customers.
Qualifications:
- 10 years supervisory and/or management experience.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Previous Airline Customer Service experience.
- Is comfortable with creation of employee work schedules and managing of all issues related.
- A valid driver’s licence is required.
- Must be able to obtain an airside vehicle operator's permit.
- Must be able to obtain restricted airside security access.
- Strong communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
