JOB OVERVIEW
The Co-op Student, Airport Operations will be involved in a matrix and team based environment and learn through on job training all aspects of the airport operations at the Firebag aerodrome. The student will be involved in the Radio operations where there is interaction with the incoming flights and relaying of weather and other critical information to the Pilots of incoming aircraft. They will also be involved in the operation of all equipment required to conduct field maintenance at the aerodrome following the appropriate training and sign off. The customer service portion will involve checking in of passengers and operation of the baggage handling role, marshalling of aircraft and assisting in fueling operations, as well as de-icing operations. Planning of field work, documentation, preparation of documentation for submission to Transport Canada and completion of Safety Management reports will also be a focus.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and local regulations regarding airport operations and security, as well as establish Suncor policies
  • Assist with the development of operations, evaluates and implements aerodrome goals, policies and procedures
  • Attends to emergency calls, overdue aircraft calls, emergency requests for efficient operations
  • Assists with the monitoring of equipment maintenance both rolling and fixed assets to ensure assets are sustained, life cycle management
  • Review logs and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness, by preparing documents for submission
  • Inputs issues related to resolving critical incidences/situations, security related activity, security breaches, equipment damages, etc. enter all items in SMS
  • Assist in development of and enforcement of policies and procedures for emergency plans, SOP's, ASP, etc.
  • Investigate complaints/issues and provide recommendations for resolution, from customers and vendors
  • Makes personal visual regular inspections of the property and the Facilities and file written reports
  • Monitors airport activities, inspects airport activities, inspects airport property and facilities and uses security tools, equipment and processes to identify potential threats
  • Advise airport management team on needed actions and improvements to security and safety
  • Contributes to the team effort by performing related duties and assignments as needed
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at an airport
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor of Aviation Technology, Aerospace technical program or relevant program/diploma/degree
  • Military or airport operations work experience would be considered an asset.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • HIGH level of Computer skills and use of IT products in an airport environment
  • Theoretical knowledge of airport facilities, Security systems and baggage systems
  • Theoretical knowledge of Airport certification requirements under Transport Canada regulations
  • Theoretical knowledge of CATSA System
  • Theoretical knowledge of Facilities maintenance
  • Theoretical knowledge of Aircraft Commissary and inventory control
  • Knowledge of Airport Ramp Operations
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Valid Radio License
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at an airport
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position is located at Firebag
  • This position is fly in and fly out. The main hub will be Calgary, Alberta
  • Standard Shift will be a 4 / 3

  • You must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (with plans to return after your work term is complete) in order to be considered eligible for this role
