After
graduating from the BCIT Airport Operations program in 2012, I relocated to
Smithers to work at the head office of Central Mountain Air. In January of this
year, I moved back to Vancouver as I was offered the Noise Information Officer
position in the Environment Department at YVR. I did both of my practicums with
them when I was in the program, so it was very exciting for me to join the team
officially.
The
Environment Department at YVR is responsible for various environmental programs
such as air quality, energy efficiency, water quality, waste management,
hazardous materials, spill response and noise management. As a Noise
Information Officer, I assist with noise mitigation projects, handle noise
concerns from the public, conduct data collection and analysis, and work on
community and stakeholder engagement of the YVR noise management programs.
Working for the Airport Authority has been awesome, and I enjoy every bit of my
job.
Frankly,
I was a bit hesitant to take this job at first since it was supposed to be an 8
month term position. However, I am glad I did because the experience I’ve
gained for the past 6 months has been invaluable - plus, my term has been
extended for another year! I am very grateful for this opportunity to work at
YVR and look forward to seeing where it will lead me to.
Note: Congratulations Rachel from all of us in the Aviation Operations programs!
