The Regional Airport Manager has the responsibility to manage, plan and direct airport operations to meet the demands of the air industry and the travelling public in accordance with National and International Civil Aviation Aerodrome standards and recommended practices, territorial and federal acts, regulations, policies and departmental procedures.
The position is located in Fort Smith and reports to the Regional Superintendent, South Slave in Hay River. The incumbent manages airport operations in Fort Smith and Fort Resolution to ensure these critical facilities are effective in the delivery of aviation services for safe, secure and reliable movement of people and goods. The incumbent will also be responsible for the training and development of an associate airport manager.
The responsibilities of this position include:
- Managing the financial, physical and human resources related to the operation and maintenance of the airports to ensure optimal performance
- Managing the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS), Emergency Response and Airport Security Programs to ensure compliance
- Managing the implementation of programs to maximize the revenue generating capacity and improve the commercial viability of the airports.
- Provide other managers, agencies and tenants with technical advice and support to identify, define and resolve problems in the operations and maintenance function.

- Negotiation and conciliation skills to ensure the airports interests are protected and advanced
- Strong human resource management skills
- Project supervision and management skills, as well as technical knowledge of civil engineering practices
- Proven ability to act confidently in challenging situations
- The ability to lead and communicate a clear direction to staff
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills
- The ability to analyze and evaluate complex situations and offer a clear solution
- Thorough knowledge of airports and the aviation industry
- Technical knowledge of the Aeronautics act and regulations (such as air traffic, security and zoning); environment acts and regulations; labour, electrical, building and fire codes
- Technical knowledge of the theories and principals of airport maintenance and planned preventative maintenance
- Writing skills
- Computer skills with proficiency in programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
These knowledge, skills and abilities are normally acquired by the completion of a post-secondary bachelor degree from a recognized institution in the fields of airport management/administration and 5 years of directly related experience in an airport environment.
Driver's License Requirement
A mandatory requirement for this position is a valid Class 5 Driver's License

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $49.02 per hour to $58.53 per hour (approximately $95,589- $114,133.50 annually) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $6,202.
